Wonderful sounds! Brings me back to watching public television when I was a child. And you're bringing out the richness of tone of the P6 in a way that's really selling it to me- those VCOs and filter sound really good

Thanks! Yeah I love the tone of the p-6, the filters and vco sound amazing and have a unique quality to them.

@@polydata if you were up for making a sound design tutorial for these types of sounds that would be awesome :) I'm enjoying your video on FM on the P6 very much. Happy to have discovered your work!

This may be an odd request. Can you provide where you drew your inspiration from when making these sounds? For example, the documentaries you speak of, or songs/bands.
@polydata2 жыл бұрын
Well, mostly the inspiration isn't from a specific place, but just the general sound of a lot of documentary and educational programming I watched when I was younger. If you search public domain archives like archive.org or Periscope Film pretty much most of the documentaries from the late 70's or early 80's have this sound. I also love production company bumpers from that era, search KZbin for "nomad films international logo" which is one of my favorites. But if you're looking for an album I would recommend "Science of the Sea" by Jürgen Müller.

very vintage fat did you use outboard eq or compression or else ? Prophet-6 sound so good

Thanks! No processing at all, just recorded directly into my interface with no plug-ins.

I'm getting a Prophet 6 so I've been watching demos. Do you find that the raw oscillator sound in the Prophet 6 is a bit more chorusy / phasey by default than the Prophet 5? It seems like the P5's VCOs are probably better at keeping a steady waveform versus the discrete VCOs in the Prophet 6. Most times when I hear a Prophet 6 I can hear that beating / phasing effect. It's something I've recently started noticing and I'd rather it be more stable by default, personally. I'd rather have the Prophet 6 for its features on paper, but that phasing sound is going to get to me I think, though I'm sure some people prefer it.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever thought of it that way, could be though. Like you said, the prophet-6 is a discrete design, so it will sound different than the CEM chips. I personally really love the prophet-6 oscillators, and the square wave pwn sound is probably my favorite of any synth - turn the filter down a bit and it just sounds so good. The p5 is really amazing too, it has "that" classic sound. I think another thing that you might be hearing is the voice allocation difference. The prophet-6 uses the more typical round-robin style, so every time you press any key it will switch to the next voice; it's really useful if your synth is going to have pan spread. The prophet-5's allocation mode is re-trigger until stolen, so if the same note is triggered, it will use the same voice for that note and cut off the last time you triggered that note, so you'll never hear two voices playing the same pitch ringing out over each other - which will definitely give you a "phasing sound". Both sound great and are useful in their own ways.

@@polydata Yeah I think you might be on to something with the voice allocation. I'd love if you made a sound pack for the Pro 2, that's the synth I'm after next. It's like a MonoPoly but with modern DSI/Sequential flair.

Hey Jimmy, I have both the Prophet 10 and 6, and I agree with you that the raw oscillators on the 6 tend to beat a bit more than on the 10. I always found that too be kind of desirable though, so YMMV
