So glad I found your channel! New Subscriber! I teach my children (5 kids) ASL in our homeschooling. My second oldest has Dravet Syndrome and has word finding issues. Teaching her ASL has allowed her to communicate with us more which has led to less frustration and meltdowns. Lots of people in the community would appreciate it, I'm sure! I took ASL in high school, never used it for a long time, but sure enough in two different jobs a deaf person brought me a pen and paper to communicate and seemed genuinely happy and pleasantly surprised when they realized they could just talk like normal. It's little things like that that can make someone's day too.

How come the word order is different from when you’re signing and speaking?
@loreleifae4730

Because ASL is a different language with its own grammar and rules. Just like Spanish or French or any other language has a different grammar/word order, ASL does too. It isn't just "English on the hands"

There are a few mistakes in the subtitles, for example instead of "deaf" the subtitles say "depth" at 0:57 and then "death" at 2:00 and then also throughout the rest of the video.

computers make the subtitles so theres a lot of mistakes on every video if you use youtube subtitles. so she didnt make them computers just guessed what the words are and tried to match them up

@@ca_aris11 well actually there is two choices for the subtitles. english auto-generated and english. basically this means she most likely went into subtitles on her video and tried making the subtitles better. she most likely mistakenly made a few mistakes

Question: When it comes to the sign for 'Profoundly deaf', do you by chance know if the reason behind that specific sign has to do with the 5 senses; the four fingers might represent 4 working senses, while the thumb in the ear represents the fifth sense (hearing) not working. My husband suggested this, and it got us wondering, if the fingers represent the 5 senses, minus the hearing.
