Ive had my girls for 3 years with no problems. Bought show girls/ silkies from one breeder. Polish and a warren from another. A couple of months ago i rescued 2 ex battery hens. Within a week my warren became very ill with what we thought was water belly. Ended up having her put to sleep by the vet. 1.5 weeks later one of my Polish chickens became vey poorly ( this was our chicken that used to go to school with my grandaughter who is special needs) used to have her own float for our poor etc. Broke our hearts. 1.5 weeks after that, we then lost her sister. I couldn't figure out why we would loose only 3? So what you have said about having the inoculated makes sense. Obviously my Polish and the warren HADN'T been inoculated. Then bringing the 2 rescue ones in had given my Polish and Warren Mericks disease even the new ones had been inoculated. Thank you

The perches inside you might want to make them thinner so they can stand without stressing much on their feet.

Could you please do a video on how you vaccinate your seramas?
@GilligGirl3 жыл бұрын
They can only be vaccinated while embryos or one day old. Here's the drug info: www.drugs.com/vet/marek-s-disease-vaccinehvt.html#:~:text=AMPULE%20AFTER%20THAWING.-,Marek's%20Disease%20Vaccine%20(HVT)%20Indications,one%2Dday%2Dold%20chickens It's pretty labor intensive. You're better off having the hatchery do it before they ship.

No. One of mine never had problem for a couple years and many broods, until one time she seemed to have problem standing up after sitting on eggs a long time, the just a few seconds later she was just fine. I thought she sat on eggs too long.

I'm surprised those two roosters aren't fighting all the time and over breeding that single hen. I have seramas and three of my roosters can't even make eye contact with one another otherwise it's fighting time. Two of said roosters have been over breeding my hens and have been the cause for the lose of walking. I caught it in time and separated them and the injured hens. Now the hens are heeled, they walk a little funny as if they were drunk, but they're out and about. I was advised to keep the roosters separate until those hormones die down a bit, since they are pretty young

Hello thank you for the information you getting in this post but I would like to know how often you have to inoculate for the Marek's disease and if they were to come down with it, is there anything that can be done for it curable.. or rather is it curable at all..? Or since they suffer do you think it is better to put them to sleep?
@LauraPallatin9 ай бұрын
Inoculations need to be administered within the first 24 hours after hatching and are a one time injection. I’m so sorry to say there is no cure or treatment for Mereks. Once I learned about Mereks and learned about how the disease progresses, I have had them put down once I was sure that’s what was wrong. There are people who put a diaper on their chicken and make a sling for them. They never regain the use of their legs, even if they otherwise recover. Other chickens will attack them because their not perceived as healthy. I know chickens hate being alone so I feel an isolated life isn’t a happy chicken life. ☹️ It’s a hard disease to deal with. Very sad.

I found a local Serama group on Facebook when I was looking for my first birds. I hope you can find one, too.
