They need to get out of the Group stage in the 2nd, 4th, 6th or 8th spot for a chance at silver. 7th is the worst spot as you play US in the quarters. 3rd and 5th can play US in the semis for a bronze medal chance. So even if they somehow beat Greece, Spain, and Canada to progress out of the Group stage, there's still a good chance they're facing the US in the quarters and getting knocked out, or facing them in the semis for a bronze shot. Best case scenario they sweep their group and no other team sweeps their group, other than the US. If they drop games along with other teams, they're leaving their fate in the hands of the +/- gods. Serbia might tank on the last day versus South Sudan so they can manipulate points for the easier road.

Some things about Serbia: -Please never let Guduric be the primary ball handler ever again. He seemed like he couldn't pace himself, would be out of control most of the time. Constant turnovers. -Guduric as the ball-handler leaves Micic as a spot-up shooter which is just absolutely insane, making a former Euroleague MVP just a spot up guy. -Jaramaz was atrocious. -Pokusevski should be starting. They were starting Nikola Jovic in last year's World Cup, Poku can literally do everything Jovic can and arguably better. Heavily increase his minutes, he should NOT only be playing only 12mpg. This was an exhibition so maybe they were just testing out different styles of play, so hopefully we never see this ever again. If they want to win against top teams like USA, Canada, France and Germany they're probably gonna have to consider playing Jokic, Bogdan, and Micic the entire game. Jokic and Bogdan are used to playing 40mpg in a Playoff setting so they should be fine, idk about Micic.

OK so reading the comments there must be a lot more casual NBA fans watching FIBA games this year. Australia has made the semi finals of the Olympics in the Men's 5 out of the last 9 tournaments (current bronze medal holders). They are not some scrub team. They don't have any one player that is on Jokic's level, but FIBA rules make for a more team focused style than the NBA and they have a much deeper roster than most teams. This is not some wild upset, its literally World #4 vs #5.

Australia is vastly overrated. There are better teams than australia who are not ranked higher. Slovenia, Greece, France just to name a few. Rankings don’t mean much.
@Ive-Wasted-My-Life4 ай бұрын
@stevem4660 How are they overrated? They're rated as a 5-8 team by most people and lost to the 4 seed in OT in the quarter finals. Theyre accurately rated I'd say. My comment above never said they were a favourite, just that they're not a minnow because people were freaking out that Serbia lost a warm up game to them.
