@@mrbosnia2188 Movie was fiction and a plagiarism off a Bosnian Croat's book. It is a fictional story as they found no such people or story existing as in the book. A Bosnian Muslim producer approached the Croat to make the book into a movie, but that fell through. Later that same Bosnian Muslim approached Angelina Jolie (or others who then connected her with him) & the script was almost exactly as the book. But once the Croat sued Jolie, the Bosnian Muslim producer's name disappeared from the project/movie to hide the connection. & though the Croat lost his suit in a U.S. court, the court said he didn't have to pay for the trial as it did said there was cause for him to make his claim.

I found a video of an x factor contestant from Serbia and she did well and they praised her and I know she was saying "thank you" and I think that is supposed to sound like vala in English but I've listened to it over and over and it sounds like she's saying kwalla like in quality or even koala. Hahahha, I get what you mean! Maybe because the syllable 'va' is so pronounced that 'h' kind of gets lost or sounds more like 'k'. But no, she is saying 'hvala' for sure :) Anyway, I am sure that Serbian phonology as a science has a more detailed response for you, but that's not what I studied, so I don't know :)

The word is "hvala". It starts with an "h" sound, as in "hello" or "hop", and ends in "vala", as in the singular of Tolkien's "valar", except the first "a" is longer - kind of like in "gnarly". Perhaps it's somewhat difficult for a non-native speaker to put the two together, but if you start with "quality", you may be able to soften or replace the initial sound with the "h", and get something fairly close to "hvala ti", which translates to "thank you [singular]". (Structurally, "hvala" is more like "thanks", but is more versatile, as it can be used in both formal and informal situations, while "hvala ti" is more for informal occasions. The formal/polite version of that is "hvala vam" - it's the plural form of “you” that's used when you want to be polite).
