The UK government puts them in previously closed hotels, often condemned buildings. They may once have been 4 star, but with limited heating/hot water/laundry facilities they certainly aren't now. As for the food, numerous inspections have found it to be of poor quality. Even toilet paper isn't always provided

I don't understand why people choose to do this. Like, being an undocumented immigrants, what are they gonna do when they arrive? It's not going to be easy looking for jobs, i doubt it's going to be possible to apply for an asylum, and if one does get a job, chances of exploitation are very high considering they are not protected by law due to their alien status. And those with kids, I don't dare to imagine how hard it will get having kids around in a situation like that. Unless one had lost everything they had in their war-torn home country and had nothing else to lose, it's a terrible idea to do this. Countries with better economic prospects do not always equate to a better life, especially for those with an alien status.
