I just recently bought an S2 in a bundle with E-wave (ES692-based WT module) as a low-end and mid-class addition to my X2GS, but have not yet had the time to connect it up and listen to it. So thanks for showcasing it, I am glad to hear (pun intended) that I made a very good purchase ;)

I still own one and it`s realy good, on the old pc i still use it, the x2 i like to use on a modern win 11 pc to play midi soundtracks.

In combination with softmpu in compatibility mode with MT-32, you can get a different sound version

The SAM2695 based daughtercards (there are quite a few) are my benchark for low-end MIDI, they sound better than the cheap MIDI chips from the 90s. They are a great choice, if you want reasonable MIDI in games without going for the SC-55 or a Dreamblaster X2GS.

So how can I just use this chip as an instrument?

@@Canadianblaken you will use it as standalone instrument (piano)"without a PC? Then you need the chill adapter and a Midi Keyboard as input device as welll as active speakers (chill provide line out via chinch) If using a modern pc or laptop I reccomend Dreamblaster X2 or another one with USB or a software solution)
