Wow, went through SERE training in 73 after competing reconnaissance training…then off to VN. I learned a lot that I still carry with me. Semper Fi!👍🏽🇺🇸

I went through SERE at Warner Springs in 1984. There wasn’t much to survive on but a few prickly pears and some lizards. Euell Gibbons even said there wasn’t much to survive on in that environment. Survival training was bad enough, but the Resistance phase will reveal your “real” you like nothing else can.

I knew guy who turned up already gone. They'd read horror stories and psyched themselves out. The first bit of trouble, they jacked, because they knew it'd get worse...or thought it would at least. Great and invaluable course

I hear ya. How bad was the POW portion? I’ve heard some bad/horror stories, but not sure at least some of them weren’t “sea stories” heard plenty of them while I was on an aircraft carrier. (Squadron AND Ship’s Company!)

This training should be mandatory for all enlisted, at least some form of it getting punched in the face, starved for awhile dehydrated, etc, even just for a few days many ppl got through bootcamp and basic with the help of others. This would show if u can handle some on my own shi cause things happen, and u very well could be on ya own.

My daughter is about to go thru this school in a few weeks. I did a desert survival class right before deployment to Desert Shield but it was nothing like this.

@SadethCheng6 жыл бұрын
Joseph Payne When I went to SERE - East they also issued us the old woodland BDUs to wear during the course.

Probably so you'll stick out like a sore thumb if you migrate off the grid.

Cheaper... use old camis that are being discarded instead of buying the new patterns. Probably.

So you can't cheat...LOL. Trust me, you don't want to wear your own (good) uniforms for this training... Have a tore up set of boots as well.

Many that you might not expect... SERE was a good experience and good training. SERE West training was excellent and the cadre extremely professional. You rarely would see behind the curtain because of this.

Recon, marsoc, some snipers, I believe some pilots. If you have a job that has high risk for capture, and you want to deploy, you have to complete this school.

If you want this training, your best bet is to get it done in the military, I would expect the opportunity to get this training as a civilian to be very limited (with regard to attending a DOD SERE school).
