Too bad Sabine couldn't focus in the final to achieve the level she showed the entire tournament... She had all the weapons to win it all
@jean-baptisteperrier75664 жыл бұрын
Too much bananas! The same has happened 2019 during the Wimbledon Qualifying tournament. Sabine Lisicki 6:0 1:0 a breakpoint for 2:0 against Kerkhove though she had only a first serve percentage of 31 during the first set! Then Sabine started to eat and drink without control. The blood went to her stomach and she started with tons of unforced errors. It is really a tragedy. Sabine could be a multiple Wimbledon Champion without that habit. I do not know why her father never stopped her though he is a doctor and should know better.

It’s a testament to the greatness of Serena Williams when a player’s career highlight is a 4th round win over her.

One of the greatest mysteries in tennis, how Lisiki had the mental fortitude to beat Serena but crumbled at the sight of Marion Bartoli bobbing and weaving across the net. I’ve never been more convinced someone was going to become champion that year but the final was a huge letdown.

Sabine is so adorable. I fell in love with her in 2011 when she beat Li Na. I wish she could come back to this level. As for Serena, she showed great sportsmanship in this match, which is not something many people acknowledge. I am hoping she can surpass Margaret Court sooner than later.

@charliechaz19823 жыл бұрын
Spot on. One of those hearts was mine. I was absolutely captivated by her run through this tournament. Great tennis from someone with a very pleasant personality. The way she was with fans was incredible. I remember one TV clip of her just walking from the practice courts to one of the buildings and this crew followed her. She was mobbed by fans and was so pleasant and generous with the fans who approached her and genuinely looked like she was having the time of her life. She was so popular. She's a lovely woman.

Sabine has a great run, but played a nervous wreck in the final. Should have beat Bartoli.
@jean-baptisteperrier75664 жыл бұрын
Lisicki had beaten Bartoli in their last meeting before the Wimbledon final. Most people have forgotton that the 2013 Wimbledon final started with a break for Lisicki (Bartoli lost her first serving game)! Then Lisicki mentally collapsed out of nowhere (losing every game of that set). Maybe Lisicki was overwhelmed starting with a break (knowing she has beaten Bartoli in another Match) and she heard an inner voice: "Your are on a very good way to win the first set and be the new Wimbledon Champion". It was too much pressure for her. In the second set it seemed as if Sabine could mentally recover, but it was too late (women finals at Grand Slam tournaments should be best of five and not best of three, IMO). Bartoli (that had lost a Wimbledon final some years before the 2013 final) was on fire and could obviously deal better with the pressure than Sabine.
