Can we talk about the relationship between Mary and Catherine? When they started to bond and joke with eachother it was so entertaining! Best slow burn of the show. Also Catherine helping Mary through her assualt was really impactful.

I just care about my son and don't want him to die" thing but it doesn't excuse all the things she tried to do to Mary to get her out of the way. Reign seasons 1&2 is like adolescence. Mary is kind, a little naive, and “pure.” She’s falling in love and navigating life at court. It can be dark but she had strong support. As the series goes on, she’s forced to grow up through a series of events, like learning that her decisions having lasting impacts, Francis’ death, the politics and power at court. She has to leave everyone behind to go to Scotland, a place she barely knows. All of her friends leave her, either through death or marriage. By the end of the series, she’s not an innocent little girl anymore. This is what I love most about Reign. It took the history of one the most famous queens and (with some creative liberties lol) turned into a coming-of-age tale. The ending is so beautiful because it allowed Mary to go back to when she was young and innocent. I just started typing this, I did not know I was gonna say all that. Maybe it’s time I rewatch lol! I definitely think you should finish the show.

I was a little sad/disappointed that we didn't see, hear, or even get a letter from Kenna before the series ended. I thought she might send a letter to Mary or smth after Mary's return to Scotland and Kenna's open ending with the would be king

And Nxt ep she is in love with francis again and says she was surprised she is is planning a life without him marrying his brother while she had already done it...

To me, Catherine hated Bash because he was a constant reminder that her husband loves another woman more than her and I don't blame her for that. She is probably my favorite character on the show, you're exactly right when you describe her as an anti-hero. She's so smart and funny and ruthless.

I liked this show casually, but I was young and somehow mixed up Mary Stuart the Queen of Scots with Elizabeth Báthory the Hungarian Countess who allegedly bathed in the blood of young girls to stay youthful. I have no idea why or how I could have possibly mixed those two up, but I did, and was watching and waiting for things to get dark and bloody. I was very confused when I got to the series finale.

@@annajansen6945 I definitely thought the show was going to portray how innocent she was growing up and portray how she became the "Blood Countess" and I assumed that the final episode would be her taking her first (literal) blood bath. I only knew of the basic Blood Countess story and knew nothing of the historical Elizabeth Báthory or Mary Stuart. I was young. I genuinely got invested in Reign's story and characters and I just assumed that we wouldn't see "The Countess" until the final episode. I had no idea what the difference was between a Hungarian Countess or a Queen of Scotland, it was all mixed in my mind. I don't even remember how I came to that conclusion originally, but I thought that's what I was watching until the final episode.

All that being said, I still liked Reign, and I would love an actual television show or movie about Elizabeth Báthory becoming The Blood Countess. Especially now since I'm more informed and a fan of historical events.

One of my fav things from this series was Catherine’s and Mary’s relationship. From full on hatred to a sort of mother and daughter situation. - It’s also historically accurate Mary’s love for Francis. When I finished all 4 seasons i decided to look into Mary, Queen of Scots info and i was very surprised how accurate lots of what I thought was just “drama” was actually real!

I'll be honest there were so many plot twists with the show but they are going by history events that why certain characters died etc. I suggest watching the rest of the seasons because the ending of how Mary ended up was a BIG plot twist. Also seeing who she saw at the end made me bawl.

I have honestly grown to love Francis and Bash equally, because they are really different from each other. So I have watched Reign a few times now and had a lot of time to think about them now. At first I liked Bash much more than Francis, because Francis seemed to be such a jerk in the beginning and so I was not a big fan of him at all, but then I rewatched Reign when I was older and saw him totally different. I liked him from the beginning, because he seemed like a jerk (which sounds weird, I know) and I could totally see where he was coming from. He is forced in this marriage, after Olivia, who he had been love with before, had left court just a few months ago. His father forcing him, is also just another thing, that shows him, he has no freedom and no choice at all in his life. He also thinks, that Scotland may not be the best ally for France (which I think is fair. I mean, when has Scotland ever really helped France? I don't mean Mary as a person, but really Scotland. Most times they needed more help and support than they ever gave back, because most times they just couldn't). So I really liked the flaws and rudeness of Francis, because I actually think they made him a compelling and good character. I also think, he was just a great king and character was kinda the opposite in the way, where he was rather a bad huspand than a bad king, which I preferred. I think, he was a loving person and also at times a more realistic person than Mary, but in the end for Mary the bester choice. So now to Bash and I really love Bash as well. He is also a great character and just a good guy. He is just so cheeky and charming. You basically have to love him. The one thing, that annoyed me a little bit, was how quick him and Mary could just live with the fact, that thay (especially Mary, but Bash didn't seem too bothered by it either) kinda ruined Francis' life. Not only his life, but that of his brothers and sisters as well. I mean they took everything away from them. I know, they did it to save his life, but after they decided it they didn't seem to think twice about. After Bash had taken the throne, their lives would have been in so much danger, because they would have weakened Bash's claim. It just bothered me, that they seemed to have a hint of a bad conscience. At last and that may be an unpopular opinion, but I love Henry. He is just such a fun and interesting character to me. His relationship with Catherine (who I also really love) is really intriguing. I actually like all of the main characters that I can remember. Btw Aylee deserved way better. She was just a sweetheart. Great video! I loved it

I can’t speak for this show since I saw only a few episodes and stopped because of everyone having sex with each other and the affairs and it annoyed me. In general, I feel we don’t see a lot of arranged marriage stories where there is friendship turned to fondness to love. We always see arranged marriages being bad and love rues the today which is fine, but I am dying to see an arranged marriage story where the couple meets, instantly clicks, and friendship forms when they get married. They eventually fall in love with each other. Not all arranged marriages are bad. I also love that fantasy of two kingdoms having to marry (couple) to merge their people together, but grow to love each other and respect each other in the end. I even pictured Brave going down this route at one point.

As someone who has watched all four seasons of the show, I can confidently say that the third and fourth seasons are very different from the first two seasons. The focus of the show shifts from the repetitive love triangles to better plot lines. You'll get to witness great character development in some of the characters in the last two seasons. I hope that you decide to watch the last two seasons and I hope that toh enjoy them as much as I did

It might be because I can’t remember if she became my favorite character in later seasons but season 2 episode 28 is my favorite episode of the entire show because of Mary & Catherine’s humor and chemistry. I think it got worse but only because the final season felt rushed. If it didn't get cancelled and continued for a season 5, I feel like they would've branched out more on Mary's involvement in the plot (or plots) to kill Elizabeth, which would've made the show so much better. Apart from the historical inaccuracies here and there, the show was incredible to watch, and the actors were amazing :)

It's definitely worth watching at the very least. Funding was cut and the show was canceled but they really tried to give us the complete story even with all the production difficulties. And Adelaide really puts her all into the role from beginning to end

I love reign so much! I remember playing it as a background noise at first but getting so interested almost immediately. Sadly it got removed from my netflix a few years back and haven’t had the chance to rewatch it. There are so many things I loved about it, the stories were always very engaging and I didn’t mind that they didn’t stick 100% to history, I liked that the show would sometimes take a supernatural turn or at least allude to it, the acting was great (from what I remember) adelaide kane did a fantastic job with mary and the character was also very well written and later developed, also she and the guy who played francis had great chemistry. I also liked that they also focused a lot on the side characters such as bash, the ladies in waiting, queen cathrene etc. One of my favourites was definitely Greer. Loved her personality, her affair with the baker boy was very cute yet sad as they couldn’t end up together but I loved the respect she had towards her husband later on and his understanding towards her. I also would’ve loved to see more of her and the pirate guy who she had a child with later on, he was very alluring. As for what I didn’t like, there wasn’t much from what I remember. I remember kind of preferring the show more when francis was alive as I ended up quite liking him (or the actor was just too charming lol). I could just feel the shift after he died. I also didn’t like that he ended up having a child with lola. I don’t know if that was historically accurate but it just rubbed me the wrong way tho it did help develop mary’s character more. The last thing I disliked is I guess the rushed ending which couldn’t be helped. I think there was enough historical content for a whole another season. Mary’s relationship with elizabeth could’ve been developed way more (from what I know they used to write to each other quite often and became somewhat friendly) and also how as two women in power they were always pitted against each other. We could’ve seen more of mary and her son (and the father of the son, don’t remember who he was right now lol) as well as seen her life in prison. It’s just sad that it got cancelled so close to what could’ve been a full filling ending so they had to rush it

I love Reign!!!! It’s still on Netflix here in America and I find myself just putting it on on a rainy day or snowy day. The music is lovely and I feel I even know the dialogue! It’s campy and not historically correct but WHO CARES??? It stands on its own! You look FANTASTIC & like you stepped off the set. That dress is what Mary would wear on the show. You must see Season 3 & 4! 4 is rushed because they canceled it! I never watched it on the CW network but found it over 2 years ago, on Netflix! It’s still going strong. As someone with a cursory knowledge of history... This show gets SO MUCH wrong. Of course, it's pretty clear that it's not even trying to be historically accurate, so it's not like it could mislead anyone - but in that case, it's a pity that they didn't just make it into a fantasy show with completely made-up characters. So basically, Francis II. and Mary were, like, fourteen when they got married, and their marriage was probably never consumated. Francis was also very sickly and died soon after the marriage. Her stay in France was honestly the most uneventful era of Mary's absolutely buckwild life. Bash is indeed made-up; his mother is based on real person, Diana de Poitiers, but she was already over 40 when she started having an affair with Henry II. and had two daughters from previous marriage. She was the love of Henry's life and honestly the absolute queen of MILFs.

I actually prefer season 3 and 4 over the first two seasons because the show becomes more historically accurate, and less fantasy teen show. There's also one new character I enjoyed a lot: Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, aka Mary's cousin. She was a breath of fresh air after the drag that were S1 and 2.

I got super attached to this show while it was airing, and I kept catching up on the CW to get the newest episodes. I didn't watch much after the first two seasons, I think I dropped off sometime early in season 3. But I definitely loved the political intrigue of the court and the people right around Mary doing things behind her back. I definitely preferred Bash too, but I knew that it would never pan out in the end because historically Mary did marry Francis. For me it was so bittersweet to watch them together because it could never happen.

I'm glad to see this review of the show. As a Tudor History buff I have a complicated relationship with the show. In terms of it being a historical drama ill be the first one to admit it's absolutely awful. Really, I'd say it's more "vaguely inspired" by Mary Queen of Scots life than actually about it. As a teen drama though, I thought it was pretty fun and enjoyable. And there are a lot of changes that they make clearly for the teen drama part (making Francis tall and attractive instead of being sickly and short, renaming Mary's ladies in waiting since it would be confusing if all 5 characters were named Mary like they were in real life, making up Bash, etc). A part of me is sad because the actual Mary Stuart's life was really interesting and would've made a good drama series but I think it being so disconnected from the historical record made it easier for me to enjoy it on its own merits rather than as a historical show.

I ended up bingeing Reign because I missed it on it's original run (I wasn't really watching CW programming at the time). Once Upon a Time introduced me to Adelaide Kane (Mary) and I knew from her talents that I had to watch Reign. I am so glad I ended up watching it. I wished we had more seasons. Season 4 felt kind of rushed. It was like they knew they only had so many episodes and they had to get to the end of Mary's story. I love the character developments we got and for the most part the characters were 3 dimensional characters. Some of the characters had really random ends to their story arcs. They just basically say "I'm out" and we never see or hear from them again so that was a little weird and kind of disappointing, but it was clear they were trying to narrow down the cast for the end of the show and the feud between Mary and Elizabeth. Overall, I really enjoyed this show and I think it's worth a watch all the way through at least once. It's a show that I'm considering buying (which I don't really do) so I can always have it and revisit it whenever I want (it was on the streaming service Crave in Canada and then it left and now it's nowhere).

The first episode was so fire, but the show fell apart so quickly for me during season 2. It was mostly the quality of the plot/storyline for everyone. I would also be lying if I didn’t say the sexual assault scene turned me off as well. That scene was so shocking to me bc I couldn’t believe the show was going there.

I love thiss show! I think you should countinue watching it, at least season 3 even though it does have a lot of a heartbreaking scenes, it also shows mary have a lot of growth as a queen and be stronger mostly cus now she has to to survive and cant rely on anyone. I personally love francis and mary together even though in the beginning i too was annoyed a bit by francis immaturity and action but he eventually grew on me and found their relationship so cute and heartwarming. And i think this is a bit of a unpopular opininon but i really like kenna & bash together even tho i found it a very unexpected pairing. They were so passionate lol and i they started to really like each other and it was so cute. Overall, this show and its costuming with all its inaccuracies and sometimes BS subplots won my heart esp the actors chosen were perfect for their role

I liked the middle. End of Season 2 beginning of season 3. I hated the Free People lacey bs of the first episodes, and the historical accurate custom dresses at the end were ok, but Mary was the best in those Alexander McQueen fits! Regal, royal, expensive, and badass!

I actually really liked Bash with Kenna. It’s one of those opposites attract things, especially when he became an official, like some sort of agent. So their dynamic became more…real? I would have loved more with them.
