For me one of the worst things Orson did was when Bree came home from a hard working day and he forced her to make a pot roast for him...I mean well she promised it to him, but she just couldn't manage it, bc she's a hard working businesswoman. But he still forced to do that...and while she did it she cried...I think that was one of the first moments he showed his "evil" self

There's more to the story than that. In recent years, there seems to be an odd glorification of Bree Van De Kamp, even though her actions caused a lot of pain, including to her children. Remember, Bree's behavior was Orson's breaking point. She pressured him to go to prison, even though the victim (Mike) forgave him and didn't press charges. Then, she refused to visit him in prison because of a lack of private rooms and belittled him constantly after his release, when a criminal record made it nearly impossible for him to find work. Ironically, she protected her son from similar consequences. Bree is a complex character, but her selfishness and hypocrisy shouldn't be ignored. The audience's tendency to idolize her likely stems from her entertaining personality and her embodiment of the stereotypical housewife image.

I think Susan is more hated than the other three because actual bad things happen to the others when they act wrong. The way the writers punished Susan was with love drama, and that was never enough compared to stuff that the other three had to deal with. Also agree about Lynette. She is a great, complex character that I, more often than not, side with, as crazy as she can be. Also I think Tom is the male version of Susan. They are both really annoying cuz nothing really bad happens to them when they deserve it and they never learn anything.

The actress who played Edie had issues with the creator that resulted in her just randomly getting killed off. He says that she was difficult to work with and that they ran out of male characters for her to be involved with which is why they killed her off. Him saying that is already disgusting but she actually sued him and said that the reason she got killed off and was fired was because he physically assaulted her and she reported it.

I was really annoyed at Carlos after season 4. Gabby and Carlos were already bad people in the first couple seasons, but it was intentional and fun to watch. After season 5 I’ve seen a lot of comments on gabby being a horrible mother but here’s the thing: she never wanted to be a mother. But Carlos never backed up gabby and always had to override her power as a parent in front of their kids. They would be so rude to her in front of him, and he would never say anything to defend her and made her feel like she was the bad Parent. At least she tried, he just wanted to play good cop and it really bothered me.

What if Katherine changing her entire personality in season five was the beginning of her mental breakdown or a foreshadowing of it? Thanks for defending Lynett, I'm so tired of people criticizing her whereas she has to deal with so much (even the actress portraying her said she regretted she was so mean to Tom like wtf). Also I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the handyman episode. To me it's one of the most beautiful episode of the whole show, it is so thoughful, and the acting was on point (Susan crying on the stairs!). Even after watching it numerous times I still bawl my eyes out.

There was a lot of drama behind the scenes with the actress who played Edie and the creator of the show. If I remember correctly the creator of the show allegedly abused the actress and when she threatened to sue he killed her off the show.

Mike is a good husband in my opinion he didn't deserve someone like Susan :/ Carlos pissed me off when he insisted on having kids but still I think he's a great character as well Orson was a very interesting character at first heck he was more enjoyable that mike but his obsession doesn't make sence and I started to hate him Tom is the male version of Susan, very childish ( i don't mind much childish people but if they are like tom and susan then no ) he never learns from his mistakes Lynette is crazy and even manipulative at times but Tom is just- at least Lynette tries to responsible but Tom just never learns and is extremely selfish

Your earlier videos on Desperate Housewives inspired me to rewatch the tv series! I binged watched it from S1 - 8, and was reminded of how entertaining the show was. Watching it 10yrs+ later, with new lens as a working and married adult made me appreciate Lynette so much more, loved Gabby's character development and Bree's dilemmas.. and found Susan a lot more annoying than I remember :D

Even though I didn't like season 5 very much my due to the Dave's predictable mystery my favorite storyline during the first couple of episodes that stood out to me the most was Lynette Scavo and her family. It took quite dark turn. I love how intense it turned after Porter got framed for starting a fire that Dave Williams started. I was disappointed that the "Daves mystery" or lack thereof storyline didn't involve the Scavos even further. We saw how their Lynette's Storyline and Dave's clashed a few times but there was not much a payoff after Tom confronts Dave on his lies. Mrs. Mcluskey and her Sister involvement in solving the Dave mystery was such a treat to watch.

Apart from the episode Bang (which was only 1 episode? did Lynette ever get a MAIN season storyline? Season 1 was Mary Alice, Season 2 was Bree vs Applewhites, Season 3 was Bree vs Alma/Gloria, Season 4 was Kathryn Mayfairs secret, Season 5 was Dave vs Susan, Season 6 was Bolens Secret vs Patrick, Season 7 was Paul vs Susan and Season 8 was Gabby and her Stepfather. I guess the ‘main’ storyline she could’ve had was with Eddie in Season 6, but the main storyline was about the Bolens. I feel like they should’ve given the finale of Season 6 to Lynette and not Gabby when picking who saves Danny - she has the motherly instinct.

@@jacobsed6665 I also think the reason why Gabby was given the spotlight to save Angie Bolen’s family was because both she and Angie had established a bond during their trip to New York. Also it was to show us that Gabby was willing to go the extra mile to help someone. Something she never would have done before the five year jump. It was further explored when we finally got deep into Gabby’s roots as to why she felt that need to protect children since she herself suffered from something no child should ever go through.

@@TJMalana I agree on all except I don’t think the Fairview strangler was Lynettes mystery. It was mainly Susan’s because Julie was strangled. Lynette just happened to find out it was him, she wasn’t really looking for the strangler. It was a subplot too, the main storyline was the Bolens. I agree about the Gabby part on saving Danny, but she had the end of Season 7 and all of Season 8. Season 8 did include all the housewives, but it was mainly Gabbys mystery/story. Lynette had some amazing moments like in Bang and in Somethings Coming and her Cancer storyline, but she never had a dramatic mystery. Maybe it’s for the best, I feel like Lynette was the most realistic in resembling an American housewife.

On the one hand, I agree with you. On the other hand, I loved how much she loved and took care of her kids. She did hold any resentment towards them which is nice because I always hate when a parent says out loud to their kid(s), “i wish you were never born.” She strived to help them and make sure they were loved which I can’t be against. But I do get that a woman who does not have kids does not need to have them in the end. I also get that is what happens sometimes. I am surprised they did not do an abortion episode than.

The Susan plot was annoying because in the fourth season it was all about how she wasn’t going to be so flakey with relationships and just focus on being content with what she has. She PROMISED Mike that she wouldn’t bring anymore drama to their relationship. Then the writers give her a plot where she feels like she has to divorce Mike out of guilt. 🙄

Bahahaha when you started ranting about Bree and Orson I wheezed a little. Your indignation was so genuine, I loved it, hahaha. A little thing I remember about season 5 is Lynette being super bitter over Bree's success, even when Bree was giving her money to keep her business afloat. It was a recurring thing, I seem to recall they managed to get into the exact same fight two or three times across the season, which was pretty impressive, lol. I thought it was very interesting and relatable cuz who doesn't hate it when their finances are in the gutter and the pal next door zooms by on a new ride. I still remember laughing out loud when Lynette drove into Bree's car at the crescendo of their umpteenth argument though, either by accident or by universal design, we'll just never know.

Tom and Lynette are a mutually flawed couple, but Lynette actually owns her flaws and tries to develop as a person. Tom is just perpetually a man child, and it’s disappointing. He’s not my favorite character, but he’s so likable at his best. So it’s disappointing when he acts out and says/does the wrong thing constantly!

I think desperate housewives depicted a mexican family pretty well. And unfortunately in Mexican/ Mexican American households the weight of a female child would be brought up that often. I’m rewatching the series currently so I am interested to see how Juanita is depicted because what I remember is that Gaby reminded me of my mom and her comments.

Hearing you, I think I can see some of Orson’s perspective and maybe his villainy came from resentment and revenge. He was deprived of his career so he wants her to not have his. She de emasculated him, so he acted sexist. If they showed more scenes of him in prison and new dynamics with him a d other prisoners, maybe we would see where his new attitudes came from. Maybe he made some friends who had sexist views and he started to believe them. Maybe his kleptomania could have started in prison, but we didn’t see them. Since Bree is not helping him and he can’t have a job, this is the only way to have control in his life. Not condoning his behavior, but this could be psychology they could have used.

orson not being held accountable for edie’s death bothered me so much. & bree knowing rose was telling the truth about him breaking into her house made me so mad. Susan was insufferable this season. from the pearl debacle to that stupid painting argument. why do you feel ok breaking into someone’s home to steal her gift from a man you are no longer in a relationship with & has no responsibility to you other than making sure his son is taken care of? her being like “oh i didn’t know the pearls were fake” as if that makes it ok now was crazy 😂i would’ve loved to see her be held accountable for ONCE. i love lynette. i wish she would’ve called the police on anne😑 i’m not paying you to leave my son alone. you’re going to jail lol. imagine if she wasn’t married to a man child and was able to flourish in her career! I was also upset at how irrational carlos and gabby’s reactions were to her hiding it. i understand the affect it COULDVE had on his business but nothing bad ever came from it. & as friends y’all know how desperate their situation became. why not cut her a break?? I wasn’t that taken aback by katherine’s change initially because i just assumed now that she didn’t have secret hanging over her head and didn’t have to look over her shoulder anymore since her ex husband was dead. i thought she was able to relax and be more vulnerable. Dave’s plot could’ve been more fun if it didn’t take forever to get revealed. he wasn’t compelling enough for me to wanna keep seeing him on my screen. his plans were so stupid and sloppy it’s asinine that he wasn’t caught earlier on.

Yes, my fav Queen Serena is back! I wasn’t a fan of this season because I felt like it lacked the satirical edge of earlier seasons. The show become like an hour-long sitcom without a laugh track. A lot of the storylines were too earnest and played straight without the slightest bit of irony. Gaby’s daughter learning she doesn’t need makeup to be beautiful etc. I remember Marc Cherry saying he wanted to wipe the slate clean for this season and get back to women with ordinary problems. But he forgot those things were just a backdrop for how fucked up Wisteria Lane is and the goings on underneath. The show at its core is satire. I don’t care about Lynette’s sons stealing their father’s car or the sweet neighborhood handyman that changed everyone’s lives…without that biting, dark humor.

So he was scared Mike would remember he was there that night. However he explained he didn't personally know mike at the time and ultimately regrets his choice. He even asked mike for forgiveness and mike understood and had empathy. However Bree and her morals wouldn't forgive him. So she made him admit to the hit and run.

@@daisyjo2138 sorry for my long response. 😅. So it was just hypocritical of Bree because Andrew killed Carlos's mother and wasn't even sorry about it. He was originally scared at the time of the accident. However once Bree and are covered it up Andrew had no remorse. Until yearssss / seasons later when he went to AA. During rehab he was told to go to all the people he has hurt and done wrong to and ask for forgiveness. But still she knew the type of child Andrew was and chose to forgive him and look the other was for years. Here Orson was a flawed man and was intentionally remorseful. But that wasn't good enough. Last but not least I truly liked Bree and orson together originally. I felt the complimented each other very well. Until Orson started turning dark and later seasons. 🙄😒

Hello, first of I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! second of I wanted to talk about / ask for your opinion on Lynette's pregnancy.... !SPOILERS FOR SEASON 6! In the beggining of the season Lynette struggles with accepting her her pregnancy, she doesn't feel like she loves her babies... she talks to tom about it, and he tells her that she'll learn to love them/growns into loving them. He literally pushed her into having children she did not want. I'm pretty sure you've mentioned it before, about how it feels like the writters never heard of an abortion and are strictly pro-life. AND IT ANNOYS THE F OUT OF ME. HOW ARE YOU GONNA TRY TO TELL A WOMAN WHAT TO DO WITH HER BODY?!! Back to Tom, he blamed lynette for not wanting kids, as if there was something wrong with her for. So yeah thats one of he reasons he annoyed the shit out of me. I'd love to know your thoughts on this.

I think all the wives can be horrible people. Gabby really works my nerves and she can be downright a terrible person but my god Susan got me so mad this season. Everything she was doing was so messed up and I really wished that Julie could’ve been here because she could’ve talked some sense into Susan. Katherine definitely didn’t deserve all the disrespect that Susan put her through. It’s like jackson could be around MJ but Katherine can’t? She steals Katherine’s pearls and gets mad at mike for getting her a gift? Not her business. She tells mike about the painting Katherine lied ab and the acts like she didn’t mean to put a strain on their relationship. I also don’t really care for Katherine and Susan’s relationship and why I didn’t feel bad for Katherine dating mike was at the end of season four Susan said that Katherine is not the same and she doesn’t really know who she is anymore while she was getting abused by her ex husband?!? I’m just so upset by her behavior!!

It's funny seeing how much she loves Orson in earlier seasons cause for me, by the time his eighth-ish episode came along, I wanted him gone. I never liked him and the moment their divorce arc started I was so excited cause I thought it meant he would be out of the picture soon. What infuriated me was how Susan is the one who caused the accident, let Mike take the blame, and then DIVORCED him. If she was so guilty she should have gone to jail etc all Mike does is get beat up and thrown in jail lmao And then with Bree she literally disposed of Andrew’s car after he hit Juanita instead of letting him get a DUI. she of all people should forgive Orson. DUI is just as bad. Also I HATE the twins. They are terrible characters and so dumb and selfish

Your understand of Gaby is wrong. It has nothing to do with money. It was a a question of her not feeling her best. She wasn't in a good place. You can be the most fashionable person and suddenly the lack of confidence or depression will make you not care about yourself. It's the first thing to go when things don't go well. She has always based herself on her looks to function in society. Imagine that look is gone because of gain weight, then the confidence is gone. Hence the clothing. Also, have you ever been near mothers? Some mothers barely have the time to stop and have rest let alone thinking about their fashion sense when they have children. Lots of mothers I know are soooo tired, that clothing is the last thing on their mind. Especially, at the early stages of motherhood. I'm sure you have heard the expression 'mom jeans'. It doesn't come from nowhere. Second, yes Gaby didn't want to have children. But she sort of change her mind when she lost that first child in season 2. So it's not so far fetch to consider that she would have tried again. Lastly, yes, the show is bad at discussing abortion. But this is a show based on Republican women living in suburbia. Not that you don't have Republican women who are for abortion. But, that is the main goal of the show was to see how suburban right-wing women were living their lives. So for sure motherhood would be pushed to the front.

Definitely season 5 ramped things up and needed a refresh with some plots. I was also sort of mixed about it, but then it grew on me HAHA. I agree that Gaby didn’t need to be so frumpy? You can save money and look cute too. You can tell a man wrote this series since he didn’t understand that at ALL😐 (which ngl, you can tell certain parts of the entire series just are clearly not written by women who’ve experienced life at all ?? Like yes this is a drama but as you mentioned, there were plenty of points that were inconsistent and didn’t make sense at all!!!) Like the amount of fat phobia is RAMPANT and raging (along with other topics that are handled POORLY) Bree definitely regressed starting season 5. It definitely shows her privilege/conservative side that’s blatantly ignorant about sooooo much stuff. It’s insane. Orson was written well in the beginning but he’s SO poorly written after the time skip like it’s crazy? What were the writers thinking LMFAO??? Love the inconsistency (sarcasm). I hate how a lot of the guys (especially Tom (and Orson in the recent seasons) feel entitled and become controlling and really want to box the women into certain roles which is toxic. Like Tom is constantly being a red flag with his guilt trippy emotionally manipulative attitude and also I hate how her feelings about being pregnant were ignored basically and he was like just being so freaking childish. It’s insanely frustrating that Lynette has to suffer and like she deserved better it’s insane. Like I could rant for ages about how like, NO woman “has to make a guy feel like a man” bc that is ON HIM. If any guy “doesn’t feel like a man” and pins it on a woman that is not right in any way. I love Lynette’s character she seems the most honest and really tries. I like her husband too. They could have had better behaved sons. I had 10 kids 6 boys and four girls, I couldn’t relate to her boys acting up so much in the beginning. But I grew to really like Lynette. Susan was ok in the beginning but never grew up, kind of like her mom. Gabby not sure why they gave her kids that didn’t look anything like their parents.Eddie I liked ok. Bree I liked her class but a bit uptight. Glad she opened her own business

Me again :D. Again so much. This is what bothers me abt shows. All the relationships between different ppl from the same group. Kinda unrealistic. But again this specifically is a Soap. And the whole back and forth with Susan with "I want Mike, oh no now i don't." but then I'm angry and jealous when these Men move on. I feel Susan wanted her Son in this preppy school bc it looks good, you know "oh look at me, MY SON is in this expensive school." I feel she was jealous Cathrine was spending time with her Son bc 1) she was back and forth with Mike and 2) she was probably threatened, like Catharine was replacing her as his Mom. The whole Cathrine being mad at Susan bc it didn't work with Mike is probably a misogynistic thing, like pitting Woman against each other instead of blaming the Man bc they can do no wrong. The whole behavior around Edie is indeed quite hypocritical, like acting like they're so close but then making fun of her AT THE FUNERAL and not being there for her when there was a break up or whatever. Gabby going on about her Daughter's weights is also quite misogynistic but the was probably taught that herself that as long as you look thin you're good and she was a model so. I agree about the fashion of her, my Mom was a single Mom and didn't look like that. And I COMPLETELY AGREE about her having kids in the first place. I think it's gotten a bit better but still you hear all these comments abt "Oh, you'll change your mind blah" I don't want children, I'm almost 26 and never did and why do we have to? And hearing all this you'll change your mind, and ending up with kids is really misogynistic and send the message like we can't decide for ourselves. This is why I don't like Bree personally, like you don't get to have a "Do over" bc you messed up. And I think the fact that she's like "See you messed up your kid and he's a vegan or whatever" and this and that is actually bc she doesn't want to admit that she actually did a good job. And the whole thing with Andrew is like, yeah you messed that up too bc you acted like he was "sick" bc he's gay and need fixing, what did you expect. And the whole Orson thing is also bc she of course always right. Like why are you making such a big deal abt Mike? They handled it. Maybe instead make a big deal abt that he ACTUALLY caused someone's death. Orson always gave me bad vibes, again I didn't watch this in a while but that he was actually meant to be a bad guy makes sense now. And the whole kleptomaniac thing is so bad, bc like yeah that doesn't just happen and I think that's a big problem especially in earlier shows. Like they don't really represent things like that and mental health and all that all that great. Lynette, again it's all this misogynistic thing imo, like the midlife crisis is obviously bad but I see this often, like the Men can go off and be children and the Woman need to be this and that but then if they make mistakes it's so terrible. I saw another comment that was talking about Gabby and Carlos and that he never backed her parenting up and stuff, again it's like the Men can be the good Cop and be basically another child and the Woman need to have it all together. The whole thing with Parker, was maybe that they realised that that not okay like it apparently is when it's Gabby but that just weird. Another thing that REALLY bothers me is when she's pregnant again or thinks that, he's like this is great, get over it. Dude you already have four kids and she doesn't want another one.

People change their minds, I didn't want kids in my late 20s, at 30 I was trying to get pregnant. She wanted a kid after her miscarriage then gave up because of everything that happened with their surrogate and their adopted daughter being taken away

in regards to Mj going to a private school, I think it makes sense susan wanted him to start young. In America specifically, private schools aren't so much about education as much as they are about connections. Sure, a private middle/high school would make more sense, but they would never accept MJ if his grades aren't excellent. When i first watched DHW with my parents i didnt understand but after watching shows like Gilmore Girls and also having friends who grew up in private schools: you NEED to get your kids into private school young so like this they have an easier time getting into more prestigious universities and such. It's not about your intelligience, its about the money. I dont remember if they ever went into a lot of detail about it in the show but realistically it makes sense to get ur kid in private school young, for social reasons at the very least. Even tho im not american, my dad is and he had to explain to me a lot of the social customs DHV showcased. Its such an American show lol
