"The Old Capital" is my second serious reading of the books by Kawabata. Contrary to my expectation, the story is very abrupt and eventful. People in the story are either unaware or not showing their emotions much toward the otherwise jarring truth. I think the way Kawabata tell the story is subtle but full of sudden shifts and fast story developments. I enjoyed the use of changing Kyoto as a background and the Japanese values of admired old history.
