Full Of Bodies (WARNING)

Snow storm coming but I had to visit this beautiful ancient graveyard but I wasn't expecting to see inside this vault. It certainly looked as if the bars had been pushed out from inside, what I found was unexpected
New information, courtesy of Deb,
Apparently, the mausoleum contained 4 burials, with only that one inner lead lining remaining.
The 2 slabs mounted on the front of the tower were originally slabs over graves and are from the 8th century.

That beautiful crypt with all the green growing inside looks like an old Charnel house. Wondering if it was for the monks of the abbey? At any rate, it was a beautiful visit. Stay warm, Sue! It is negative -1 deg (59F to you) here at 5:30 am. I've been up checking on my chickens and stoking the fires. It was ever so nice to come in and find this video to watch while I have an Irish coffee and attempt to rewarm. Hope you two got home safely. Be blessed and be well in all things.

Beautiful cemetery and church. That old i can tell the how some of the stone work placed piece at a time to fit but the tower is gorgeous. Don't get caught in the snow. To dangerous 😳. Beautiful cemetery and beautiful surroundings. There were a lot of bones in that vault. I think it could have been an ossuary at one time. Most all old cemeteries have one. Even in my small town, our oldest cemetery has one, even though it isn't used anymore. The stones and the grotto are beautiful Doesn't the symbol of a fish refer to Christ? Maybe because of the story of Jesus feeding the people? I'm not sure. Thank you for the tour, Sue. I understand you want to get back home before the nasty weather starts. Be careful of black ice. That does look cold. Adds to the magic tho. Another beauty. Interesting it was in use recently enough to have electricity. But so sad to see it not in use now. Fascinating to see the vault in the walls. Wonder if they were local nobles? Or monks? A shame we prob will never know. We've been lucky in my part of Wales, we've not had the winter most have had. In fact I'm more worrying about water being off grid and relying on a 1/4 full tank of rainwater ATM. Odd isn't it? Thanks sue and gv. Another fab visit.

We just had 5 1/2 " of snow, which is historic for southeast Texas. *(13.97 cm). It shuts us down as of today. Nobody goes nowhere. ❤ So, I believe the lead coffin on top was a baby. The size fit in the middle, and the back had no moss growing ❤

Just had a thought: those graves that can't be read because they are inaccessible, might be more easily read by a low flying drone. The architecture of the old stone structures is amazing. Impressive that they last for centuries. Thanks for taking us along for this visit. Your safety in the odd snowfall is understandable. We had several inches here in Georgia, USA, last week. Below freezing temperatures at nigjt for many nights. I only ventured out once with my walker in the ❄️. Trash collection does not care about weather. Out it must go!

Strange question, Across the puddle in Dorset the smaller churches will use sheep or goats to keep the grave yards from overgrowing and remaining presentable, it’s also a cheap way to keep the little less used graveyards tidy and the animals belly’s full, is this not a thing with you? Looking at some of the graveyards you have in the past visited it may be a good way of showing some love to the eternal sleepers resting places.
