Grand merci a Mr. Rosenthal (et a Ralph Conde pour ce choix excellent et connaisseur d'intervenant) pour cette riche histoire du Compas. Une petite suggestion: Est ce que ce serait possible qu'on arrive a un accord de dire en Français, Compas Direct, mais en Creole, Konpa Direk? Cet addendum en prononciation serait peut-être consistent avec la marque déposée, et ce Mr. Rosenthal explique, mais reflection d'un grand changement social et linguistique en Haiti. La réalité est que dans les années 50-70, la société Haïtienne ne permettait pas l'usage du Creole dans les documents officiels, donc Nemours n'avait pas d'autre option que d’écrire Compas Direct dans le registre; mais ce standard a complètement changé. En plus, le Creole est la langue utilisée dans les chansons Compas Direct, et dans les rares occasions que les textes sont chantées en Français, la partie émotionnelle est toujours en Creole. Pour donner un exemple - Coca Cola est la marque originalement enregistrée, mais la compagnie a sûrement ajouté Coke, qui est le nom utilisé. Personne ne va à un restaurant et demande un Coca Cola.

Hi Ralph, how are you doing? Let me first tell you that your show is very interesting. This particular one with Serge Rosenthal will probably remain one of my favorites for a long time. Before talking about the Compas Direct, I would like to say that Serge Rosenthal is an examplary of what a haitian gentleman is. Regarding the Compas Direct, I had observed that structurally it reflects exactly the haitian code of proper haitian social behavior. A proper compas is like bringing a friend home to meet your family: 1. You introduce the friend to the family with a sort of reserve, thus allowing time for the family to read and analize your friend. 2. Then your family will ask your friends about his family and where they live etc. That's the story that will approve or disaprove the credentials of your friend. That story is told by the singer. 3. Once the singer is done giving the credentials, there is the transition which is usually the invitation to pass to the dining table. 4. At the dinner table is where the visit reaches its most joyous state and highest agreement level and why it is also the longest part. 5. Then comes another transition where the visit begins to calm itself down, which is an anouncement to you that the time for your friend to leave is coming soon. 6. Then there is the goodbuy. In conclusion, if you understand Haitian social culture, you will understand Compas Direct.
