Excellent rendition by Pogorelich of what I consider as the greatest Prokofiev's piano sonata, in spite of the most famous 7th.

The Prokofiev's Sixth Piano Sonata ranks among the best Pogorelich recordings, altogether with his Scarlatti Sonatas and his Ravel. He plays it beautifully, with his powerful characteristic piano sound. He manages to transmit the desolation feelings no doubt Prokofiev had when composing it. I prefer this interpretation to that of Richter. Being this last one also very good. An exquisite performance. 🤔🙄❤️💎👍

Pogorelich simply brought this sonata to unequal next level. I just can't hear other interpretations after this one. His dynamics and articulations give exact terrifying insanity tone that this sonata deserves.

Pogorelich recorded this sonata twice--once very early in his career and a second time for DG after the 1980 Chopin Competition, which he did not win but became famous for because juror member Martha Argerich resigned in protest over Pogorelich not being selected as a finalist. The pianist became better known than the eventual winner that year. This performance here, which sounds like the DG recording, is one of the better recordings of the Sixth.
