I don't think that is anything unusual for that town; it's certainly not a tsunami. People seemed to be expecting it, and were there to watch. The still-wet mud on the road (2:11 - 2:25) indicates it has happened before, and very recently. My guess it is the high tide coming in, which reverses the flow. There are many places where this happens - St. John and Moncton in New Brunswick, to name just two.

@@sahalperen7103 Evidently you know little about tides. In most places they are a gradual up or down, yes, but in some cases the incoming tides will produce very sudden rises in water level - look up "tidal bore" for examples. An exceptionally high tide might also cause water to rise above where it normally would. In any case, what we see in this video is not a tsunami - it just a higher than usual incoming tide. BTW, you use of the word "honey" above was a condescending and sexist remark - entirely unnecessary. Do you treat all women like that when you happen to disagree with them?

Once you see water drain from river like that, you start to move away.. you are playing a dangerous game sat watching the River fill up.. You never how bad a tsunami might get. Take Japan in 2011, when that came , it came with a speed and force that took anything and everything in its path, even an entire airport
@Bakhuuus3 жыл бұрын
This is not a river, but the adriatic see. What you see is not a tsunami as we know it, but a meteo-tsunami or seiche, developing due to differencies in the air pressure. These are far less dangerous and "common" so the locals are used to it. You can observe the same phenomenon in Venice for instance, when the sea floods the streets.

This phenomenon is called sciga in croatian and it's caused by the combination of rising tide and wind, just like acqua alta (high water) in Venice.
