I first heard Franco Corelli in 1966 when I was 12. I've gotten into a lot of other singers and different styles of music over the years, but his voice still haunts me. It's the most thrilling sound in the universe. And he was so handsome too. I wish I could've seen him perform. But we have youtube, thank God!

Can’t copy the greats if you don’t have a strong chest voice threaded throughout your entire vocal range. Voce ingolata won’t cut it, and it doesn’t effect you like singing properly does.

Ci sono certe interpretazioni di Corelli che veramente sono incommentabili. E' talmente grande interprete che non ti lascia parole. Oltretutto ha una recitazione molto intensa e teatrale, ma riesce egualmente ad essere vero e sincero, senza alcun narcisismo o esibizionismo. Si potrebbero citare tutti i più grandi tenori del '900, ma ognuno la cederebbe in qualcosa a Corelli. Lui era veramente l'unico e il solo con tutti 10 e lode in pagella.

Beautiful rendition of the flower arial. Fantastic voice, brilliant acting. Draws one into the emotion of the aria. Ihave listened to all the great tenors from Caruso, Gigli, Bjiorling. They all offer so much and there are many more I could mention. One I would like to mention for unique voice quality is Mario Lanza. Yet having now listened to a catalogue of Corelli's arias and songs I rate him as the gtreatest of them all.

I think my favorite trait about Corelli is his signature attack of the high notes. Just a slight but perfectly executed scoop up to the note. He was a master at this, it gave him such a dramatic impact to his sound. Some singers try to do this now but overdo it and scoop too much and it sounds cheap and cliche

Here's the SCOOP on Corelli. He did occasionally scooped, which means taking a portamento up to a note just before the desired note to be hit and then hitting the desired or written note. However he did this more often in an interpolated high D or C as in Poliuto. In My Opinion this is okay because of his majestic voice and difficulty in hitting such a high note. He did do excessive portamento which many critics of his regarded as scooping. This is really not accurate. Stefan Zucker in an interview, asked Corelli on behalf of a write in fan on his Opera Fanatic radio program,'' why he used so much portamento'' Corelli's brief answer was ''TO BE SURE''.

That's why it's called an interpolation when it is not written. Examples: the high C in Pira, The B-natural is written in Nessun Dorma but only to be touch and held as many tenors have done. I'm not sure about the High C in Che gelida manina but I think that is not written as well. The second b- natural in No Pazzo Son after the ending of the aria

Corelli stated to Zucker that he preferred his own voice on records rather than live recordings. Saying that I'm all over the stage in live operas. I actually prefer FC and everyone else in live recordings because of the different more exciting pulsation that the live recording or performance offers.

Aunque la ópera Carmen fue originalmente escrita en francés por Georges Bizet, por lo visto en este video también se hizo una transcripción en italiano, y en esta como en todas las que interpretó durante su vida, el tenor Franco Corelli hace una verdadera romanza del Aria de la Flor, donde ratifica toda su maestría y dominio del fraseo, la respiración y la colocación de las notas, así como de los contrastes que demandaba cantarla siguiendo los requerimientos del compositor. Sus agudos fortísimos, limpios y sin rastrilleo, fueron el sello inconfundible de una voz que arrancó aplausos en todos los escenarios donde cantó.

I've listened to many of the tenors today (2019) and they, honestly, can't match Corelli. There's a smoothness to his lines, complete breath control (he doesn't run out of breath), and great power when called upon.

This scene reminds me of a boy from 6th grade. He stood outside my house on Valentine's Day to give me a bag of candy and a hand-written card that said, "Would you be my girlfriend?" He was too shy to say anything and had brought along his buddy to stand next to him and support him, which I thought was kinda funny. His hand was trembling when he handed me the candies. What a sweet memory! I had known him since 4th grade, but in 6th grade he was tall and quite mature for his age.. Gosh he trembled so much before me... I can never forget him. Maybe if he'd had a voice like Mr. Franco Corelli I could have loved him forever😂. But we were too young. God bless his soul. And God definitely blessed Maestro Franco Corelli. 💕
