Very easy. Because half of the fouls were not really as hard as the Barcelona players made them believe. They pretended a lot so that the referees expelled the Madrid players, in each foul. And this protectionism of the referees towards Barcelona at that time had the opposite effect on the rivals, who used more harshness when facing Barcelona.
