------------
In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

I don't know if people know this, but Alex has talked about how hard it was to get contestants for the 1st season since many people thought it would like fear factor or something. So I'm just super thankful to everyone in this season for taking a chance.

I think it was important that all of them were established comedians. It gave the show not only a draw for their fans but it also qualified it as a legitimate comedy show that household names were on. This allowed, after Taskmaster gained fans for the show itself and not just the contestants, lesser known comedians to come on and have it as an important career step.

Coming back and watching the first season in 2021 is wild - the studio is much smaller, Alex and Greg sitting on chairs that are the same height, and Greg's level of intense disdain for everyone has not yet fully set in 😂 Also, I feel like Frank Skinner doesn't get enough credit for getting the first season of TM off the ground. At the age of 58, he agreed to be on a game show without any idea what it was going to be, and everybody else (including Greg) basically signed on because of his presence on the show. @@jackfredricks6223 to be fair to Róisín, I think she did this mostly as a favour to Alex and not to win (Tim, Josh and Romesh really wanted to win), but have fun/be funny, they had a lot of trouble getting people to sign on at the start, Alex even wrote pleading letters to people and promised them they would not look foolish. Now people beg to be on it. While I would have liked her to try harder for her own sake, because she has some brilliant moments, the contrast in her performance to those desperate to win is sometimes what really makes the show great. 5 melon smashing manics would not be as entertaining.

@@siramea Yeah this show is about contrast. Every season you gotta have one contestant that doesn't give af. Róisín gets a hard time from a lot of people for not trying as heard as others, but if everyone was like Tim Key (or whoever) it would be a boring watch, the contrast is what makes it a better watch. Also, I think she partly did the show as a favour to Alex, not with any ambition to win.

roisin and jo brand were utterly useless; no sense of urgency for timed events, didnt do tasks properly, didnt even bother finishing some of them, no excitment or enthusiasm, no motivation or ambitian, no attempt to be entertaining to watch at all. they generaly looked annoyed to be there and it was annoying to watch them bring absolutely nothing to the table. if they were paid for this they should give the show their money back. waste of an opportunity, im sure there are a ton of other comedians who would have brought their a game and realized this was a great opportuniy to get a ton of tv time with a big audiance.
