I wasn't that impressed with captive prince, but motivated enough to continue, and I've heard good things about the rest of the series. BUT then I read the second book. Damn. That book is one of my favorite books ever. Best slow burn romance that I've ever read. I don't want to bore you with it, but reconsider continuing it in the future. I see that you don't want to be involved in drama around it, and I understand. I'm not on booktube twitter, so i don't give a f about arguments surrounding this series. Just wanted to tell you that the first book is not a good representative how amazing the rest of it is.
@ThoughtsOnTomes7 жыл бұрын
I've heard that over and over, which is why I originally started the series. The major feud surrounding it from both sides is so exhausting though. I think I will read it at some point... once it doesn't make me tired just to think about lol

I get you 100%! You are a booktuber, a book reviewer and I read books very casually. I'm passionate about reading but I don't get involved in discussions. Sooo maybe try continuing when you are well rested from the book dramas? :))) maybe one day, no need to rush.

Throne of Glass is definitely at the top of my list. I can't stand it. And you're totally right about certain fandoms just being awful. One thing that really annoys me is when someone says, "Oh, don't quit 'series x'! It's so good once you get to book 4!" I shouldn't have to read four books into a series for it to get good. That's ridiculous. There are WAY too many amazing stories out there to waste my time with something I hate.

I get what you mean about the nostalgia aspect of people loving the PJO series, but if I take away the nostalgia, there are actually a lot of elements that I liked in the first series better. I really liked how some of the stories really modeled famous Greek mythology works, like Sea of Monsters and The Odyssey parallel a lot. I also liked the characters in the first series better in the next one, because I feel like some of them get too much power. Romance also isn't a huge focus of the first series, which I personally really liked.

But then there was so much time between me reading the second and the third coming out that I knew I'd have to re-read at least the second book to remind me of where the story was...so I put it off. Then I started hearing the third was awful...and now I just don't want to finish at all.

I read the entire Mara Dyer trilogy and for me, book 1 was "this wasn't great, but I'm intrigued", book 2 was "well this wasn't good but maybe the last book will give me the answers I'm seeking" and book 3 was "what did I just read? who allowed this garbage to be published"? Outlander! Like why do people like this. It's long. It's boring. It's unhealthy relationships. I read I think 300 pages in the first book and NOTHING happened. Ugh. I do not get it's immense popularity. It's not any different than any other historical romance, other than it's ten million pages longer than it needs to be. Lol

Never understand why so many people take this as a negative video! I LOVE this type of video, especially as you did it where you give a real explanation on why you don't want to continue! If i am thinking about starting a series -and i am one of those people if i start i HAVE to finish it!- i love watching people telling my why they didn't enjoy that series, because that gives me the other side of the book. Most reviews are so overly positive, so talking about why you don't want to continue? so much better for deciding if it is worth giving a try or not! Great video! :)

Huh I didn't realize Captive Prince was a controversial book. I read the series recently and really really enjoyed it. Maybe because I've just been reading a lot of m/m erotica lately and this is clearly a step above most of that. It was so much more put together and thought out, so that it reminded me of the more high fantasy stuff I read a lot of as a child. I thought the politics were really realistic in this, and for the most part none of the characters suffered from being stupid as a brick of cheese. Do recommend.

I've started Percy Jackson when I was 19 without ever reading it in my childhood. But I only started really liking it after the ending if the 3rd book. Before it was just okay. So I get your struggle with the first ones, especially considering that you hated the narrator. Unpopular opinion: I really dislike the lunar chronicles. It just bores me. The characters bore me, the writing bores me, the plot bores me. I was just hoping for a lot of things I didn't get. I tried to read cinder a year ago and I DNFed after 40 pages. I pushed through it a month ago and I started reading Scarlet last week but I just got bored. I probably won't continue with it. If anyone wants to spoil me with what happens with the rest of the series, please do. I would really like to know what happens, I just can't be bothered to read the books.

Ah, The Blood queen and the three dark crowns are they worth reading at all? I started both a few months ago and got about half way with them and am struggling to finish them. I'm finding them both kinda on the boring side. Kinda regretting buying both of them to be honest.

Literally just finished reading Rat Queens Vol. 2 before seeing this, and had no idea what was going on. Really sad because the characters are amazing (Orc Dave still has my heart). Even though Saga is hard to beat, Y: The Last Man is still one of my favourite series. I haven't read it in awhile, but it introduced me to Brian K. Vaughan and I gotta stand by it. On another note, your makeup is on point!

I own almost half of those books you listed and I'm planning to get rid some of them soon because recently I find myself losing interests in reading YA novels since it always involves romance and I am not a huge fan of romance.

I'm trying to step out of my comfort zone of horror novels. Do you have any suggestions in the fantasy genre for me to start out with?

kinda obsessed with your eyeshadow in this hoooooly :OOO ToG really only holds any weight with me because of Manon too... she's the only salvation in a book with me just going "...why" so much of the time It's so nice to watch these cause I feel that the vast majority of information I'll get on books I look up are just so wholly positive and people who have less than amazing reading experiences stay hushed on them for whatever reasons and I can't live in that world where EVERYTHING IS ROSES. So THANK you, I'm probably gonna watch all of your recent videos in a form of detoxing from holding in less than stellar opinions :p

People talking about their unpopular opinions and what they didn't like feel so good to watch because they're such an assertion of individuality. For me, it's not about the Shade, but about the freedom to say "no", "I don't like it" and "you can't make me and not everybody has to be like you and like what you like".

"Why would I do that to myself? I don't hate myself!" Lol. And your description of Black Hearts is so funny! It definitely sucks when a book isn't what it's marketed as at all! I just uploaded a video about this topic, and Throne of Glass was one of mine, too. I loved the first 2, but the 3rd one was so blah that I just didn't care anymore.
@jelimonster987 жыл бұрын
Would you still recommend reading these books though? the ones you actually enjoyed that just started going down hill? aka throne of glass, which I want to read but I also prefer to marathon so I was gonna wait for the series to end. Im generally fine with starting a series I dont think I'll finish so are any of these worth reading att all? also I honestly didnt feel like Red Queen needed to continue imo I was happy where it ended idk
@ThoughtsOnTomes7 жыл бұрын
I don't start series unless I plan on finishing them at the time of starting them, so knowing I won't finish these, I really can't say? If any of the premises sound appealing to you, go for it.

I just read the first Percy Jackson graphic novel and that is definitely not a series I will continue in graphic form although I do plan to check out the novel at some point and see whether it speaks to me.

I felt pretty similar about Three Dark Crowns, but I also felt like the book was more prequelish/build up for the next one, so I'm pretty excited to finish the series in hopes it's better.

With the Red Queen series I really like them while reading them but looking back I'm always wondering how much I really liked them? I enjoyed the newest one and I will definitely get the last one, they are fun but I think that might be about it for me.

I feel that way about a few series, like the lunar chronicles. I enjoy them, and then almost immediately forget about them.

I am not finishing The Remnant Chronicles. I enjoyed the first book well enough but halfway through the second I stopped caring. I felt connected to the characters and liked them in the first book. The second book I suddenly realized the only character I would miss if they died was Gwyneth. When I realized I wasn't having fun reading I put it down for good.

I agree with Throne of Glass. It had so much potential, and I hate how (spoiler) SJM just threw an ACOMAF at the end of the fifth book. Although I will be reading the last installment but ONLY because of Manon Blackbeak ❤

I heard the ending is basically the same as ACOMAF and I giggled.

x_guela haha lol same but I'm in it for Dorian, Manon, Lysandra and Aedion THATS IT every other character has been destroyed and ruined cough Celaena cough also even though I was never really into Chaol I saw he had potential and UGHHHHH

I was so disappointed with the ending of "King's Cage" (the 3rd book in the Red Queen series) I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one who feels like it took us almost straight back to where the 2nd book ends. Sorry for my rant.

I've read the first three books in the throne of glass series. And I remember rating them highly and loving them. But now looking back I think I may have just thought it was so great because it was super hyped. I don't really think it's that great anymore and I'm not going to finish it either. But I will continue the ACOTAR series.

I also had a hard time with the first book of PJ, but now, it's my fav series. Heroes of Olympus is way better than Percy, but many people from the fandom didn't like it 'cause Percy wasn't the main character. Still. it's so good. However, I'm having trouble with The Kane Chronicles, a bit slow... Hope you get through it :D I'm actually gonna start the second book of Firebird this week LOL

I think I'm going to like HoO much better if I can just get to it!

Angelica Lopez I love the Percy Jackson series but this whole "Percy has to lead everything he's the best ever" mentality is really frustrating for me. I feel like Heroes of Olympus had some fantastic characters that got neglected because of everyone's obsession with Percy (like Hazel and Frank)
@angelicalopez37627 жыл бұрын
archerymaster8 I know! I do like Percy and all, but the other characters are great too. I really love them! Specially, Leo
@Ann86dk7 жыл бұрын
I agree. I was never the biggest fan of Percy and Annabeth (I didn't hate it at all I just wasn't neither loving or hating them) my favorite characters in Percy was Tyson and Grover. In Heroes of Olympus I just love Leo so much and that's why HoO is my favorite series of the 2. I also like that the characters are more grown up, and it's just refreshing with multiple POVs when it's done well.

I totally get what your saying for many of these books, especially Percy Jackson. I just couldn't appreciate it as an adult - it's one of those series that really is nostalgia for a lot of people so think.
@Pizzelle7 жыл бұрын
I tried reading it for the first time as an adult, and I couldn't get past the first few chapters. Reading a middle-school boy's voice in the first person was just not fun!

This video cracked me up! This is also why I tend not to start a series until all books are out if I can help it, just in case I lose interest, and I hate to have to re-read. It's tough to be patient, though, I imagine even moreso for a vlogger/blogger. one of the books you mentioned I super agree with- the Patrick Ness book. I thought I was alone in hating that book. I was so mad that the villain was like a fucking terminator even though he was just a regular guy. And then the part with the dog? NOPE. Anyway also I wanted to comment on Captive Prince, even though you said you're tired of people's back and forth about it >.> I just wanted to mention that if you weren't bothered by the content, book 2 and 3 are much stronger books, so you might enjoy them if you're ever in the mood to continue.

I also agree with you about not caring about Aelin gala-something, but at the same time I still have two books left and even though I don't like the main character there a many side ones that I do like (NOT Rowan) and I feel like they make the struggle that is our female protagonist worth it.

Apparently Rat Queens is returning with a new artist, Owen Gieni, NOT the original artist Roc Upchurch. I'm excited to see where they go with it. After the mess that was Vol 3, it can hopefully only go up from there.
