Really like tutorials in which tuts are using these black transparent boards. It makes me hipnotized somehow and I'm able to focus a little better on the matter.

You can't just throw in a phase angle of -90 for the capacitor without considering the phase angle of the current which comes from the total impedance Zt. This would give 14.9A with a phase angle of -35.9 which would result in a voltage and phase angle across the capacitor of 113.4V and an angle of (-90 PLUS -35.9 = -125.9) degrees, not 270/-90. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The phase angle of -90 is just for the Voltage across the capacitor and the total current

Ah, I didn't watch the last minute where you solved for theta of the original voltage. I had assumed that a phase angle of 0 was implied for the voltage. So yes that would put your current at a phase angle of 0 and your cap voltage at a phase angle of -90 degrees. Thanks for clarifying.

What would you do if you had A circuit that consists of a coil and a capacitor connected in series across a 120 V, 60 Hz supply. The capacitor has a value of 35 µF. The circuit current is 8.5 A (lagging), and the wattmeter shows 250 W?

It would really depend what I was looking for. But for the capacitor you can easily calculate Ohms, Volts, and reactive Power If you know the total current and voltage, you know your totla apparent power, so you can put the watts and Qxc on a power diagram to figure out the QxL.

How do you find the capacitive reactance if you only have the volt drop and current across the capacitor?
@ZackHartle

It would just be by transposing ohms law. Z = E / I

I keep getting a Xc= .00758 ohms: which converts to 7.58 micro ohms as you wrote it on the whiteboard.

Nope that wasn't it. I believe your Xc is not in ohms but in mili-ohms

I have 2 questions that I need help with. First question: A coil and a resistor are connected in series with the following values: The resistor is 4.2 ohm The current through the circuit is 9 A The total power dissipated by the circuit is 800 W The supply is a 120 V, 60 Hz supply. Find XL of the coil Find the VD across the coil Find the pf of the coil
