Counter theory: In Prototype 1 Gerene said "I am your mother"- maybe this line was literal not metaphorical. Assuming Prya(Gerene's child) looked identical to Alex. (Mercer was broken and went to isolation. Meanwhile Prya to avenge his mother disguised as Mercer and aspired to create a team of evolved to kill Alex and demolish the brutal organization). SO the one who was consumed by Heller(whom we thought as Alex so far) was Prya Reasons 1) Alex didn't use 70% of his powers which means that imposter (Prya) didn't have those unique abilities 2) No where it's mentioned that Alex have the power to release virus(naturally the way it's shown in the lore) 3)After huge losses due to hatred of MERCER fans Activision might rethink about Mercer & Heller fans and keep both of them alive in its sequal THIS is my opinion rest depends upon ACTIVISION.
