You actually completely miss the point of the difference - serif fonts make readability easier on a written page, while sans serif makes readability easier on a screen. For example, what is the default I am typing in right now on this KZbin page? What is the default when you open a microsoft word document, or outlook email? It's sans serif, because the eye reads it easier on screen. Meanwhile, what is the default for printed books/newspapers - a serif font like times new roman, that makes reading the printed word on paper much easier.

It's more of a personal taste, I don't like them to be honest, I'm a sans-serif kind of guy :)
