Interesting how Sun Jiens story is similiar to that of Liu Bei. Humble beginnings but some great forefather. Serving across China gathering very loyal and competent followers who dropped their previous lifes to serve him. If he had survived, would he be competing with the other warlords or simply helped Yuan Shu do better?

I have to say, Sun Jian's meteoric rise reminds me of another famous Chinese general, Xue Rengui. He like Sun Jian was born a poor farmer yet rose to become one of the most preeminent generals during the early years of the Tang dynasty. Also like Sun Jian he is one of the most well-known military generals of his time due to his humble background, outstanding command abilities, strength and valor in battle.

to be fair he really didn't super fast or at least we are not at that part of the story yet. But 15 years to rise to administrator isn't exactly meteoric

Cao yin learns this treachery from Cao teng I bet since they both have the same clan name and if I had to guess wang rui and Cao yin got into a fist fight or tried to pay assassins to kill one another since that's probably the closest they get to murdering each other

Loved it! its amazing that despite all his good points Sun Jian still made actions that would have adverse effects for him in the future. Of course at the time nobody could judge him for what he did but still....I guess that's fate. Now i want to understand something. Has Sun Jian NEVER seen his family AT ALL since the YTR uprising?? not even a quick vacation to check on the wife and kids? That's very rough. I wonder when he had time to have Sun Ren then?

He already had Sun Ren (she was the youngest of the eight when he left for war). Life is tough for soldiers back in the day. This song here kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3_FlXawqd18edk which comes from a Han poem depicts soldiers often get drafted when they are 15 and comes home only after they are 80 when they recognize no one in the village. Obviously this is an over exaggeration of the situation but with transportation being so slow back in the days, it was not uncommon for soldiers to basically never see home again.

the game age is not accurate because no one knows her exact age. A birth at 189 would put her around 19 when she marries Liu Bei which is extremely unlikely as historical records suggests that she was in her twenties and her personality made her difficult to marry off.

@@SeriousTrivia Indeed. She must have been at least 25 if she had already driven away many suitors since i highly doubt anyone will take her seriously as a teenager. It would be a whole lot more interesting if she was older in the game since i usually finish the campaign around the same time she comes of age

Great video! I was wondering: In Dynasty Warriors 5 Xtreme Legends you get to play a battle that has Sun Jian's forces pitted against the bandit Qu Xing. However, in that game they have Qu Xing's name spelled and pronounced as Ou Xing. Was that a mistake on Koei's part?

Kinda sad 😞 that d sun made good name here but these cities later fell to liu bei. Then again, liu bei is his son in law, so what d heck? Hard picturing old geezer Huangkai as a young man 👨it would b I think interesting to see the lore on liu biao or liu yan.
