I never thought that an old Armenian man (and I am one) would be rocking out on KZbin. My grandmother narrowly escaped the genocide. She was rescued by french ships at the base of Musa Dagh in 1915. @@BalkanSpectreYou gotta have a nuanced view of this. A lot of people rock American flags and become patriotic because America is the place where they live, or because they got attached to the country, especially people who escape horrors will get attached once they rest there, it's not because they support literally every single horrific thing the American flag has stood for and every genocide and war and bombing America has done. You're doing great trying to make people aware that the things America does is just as horrible but you gotta have more nuance, and try to come at this by trying to educate people, rather than demonizing victims of genocide, especially when the topic is so personal to someone

Having recently read “Down with the System” and having followed Serj for a number of years I understand how personal this song is, and the depth of meaning behind it. It astounds me how deeply ingrained in Turkish culture the denial of the Armenian Genocide is, I recently viewed a recipe (of all things) on Instagram where the cook credited Lahmajoun as being Turkish. A number of people (myself included) questioned the accuracy of this, raising the Armenian link, and I was disgusted by how many Turks came out of the woodwork vehemently denying the Armenian genocide occurred, and even blaming Armenians as being the aggressors. I have no ties to Armenia, I have no Armenian in me but I will happily and proudly stand in support of the Armenian people and their ongoing fight for justice. Justice WILL shine on you all!
