Various judges have sort of given an explanation to that over the years. A lot of the time they're not looking for someone who's already nearly perfect because those are the ones who can fairly easily "make it" on their own. What they're really trying to find is potential; someone with obvious talent AND some flaws, someone that could really benefit from their mentoring and guidance and develop into something great. The Voice, much more than any other similar "sing to win" shows, really puts a lot of emphasis on helping the artists grow and perfect their skills, rather than having the emphasis put on just having them hash it out over and over to find the natural best........the show kind of embodies the cliché of "it's not the destination that matters, it's the journey"... Also, my apologies for that being so long....with all the nonsense and idiocy on KZbin, I occasionally enjoy giving a proper and detailed response to things :D
