This is a good example of people twisting the words of the gospel to their own purposes, to reconcile the word of God to their own very different belief systems. In most cases, the language of the bible is clear. You either believe it and are committed to follow it, or you are not.

Actually, they did a good job. I would have said more about "Judge, not that you be not judged." Because Matthew 7:20 tells us that, "by their fruits you will know them." So there is a place where we are supposed to judge.

As someone who is familiar with the Old Testament, it seems that the Sermon on the Mount was an attempt to put Jesus in place of Moses. Moses gave the laws after he received them from God on Mt Sinia. The sermon here is not really laws but sayings with no instructions. Also, the Sermon was not said to the few desciples of Jesus but to a "multitude" .
@popnsickle7221
@popnsickle7221 2 ай бұрын
Christians believe that Jesus is the (Logos) God's word made flesh, therefore He was the law given to Moses. Also, anyone who follows Christ is considered a disciple. Pastor Rob has stated this correctly. You may be thinking of the few Apostles.

When you study the whole gospel, you discover that it isn't about keeping any particular thing. Rather it requires that we recognize that we cannot keep either the 10 commandments or the sermon on the mount. Therefore we need another way to qualify. Jesus, who knew no sin, was able to die in our place, paying for our short comings. His resurrection showed that he could overcome death and provide a way for us to be restored after death. What we are required to do is to acknowledge that He has taken care of everything and thank Him for that.

@6:45 this is why Christ spoke in parables. He said that the meek shall inherit the Earth and that "thy kingdom come" Christ is trying to teach us that Earth will be an outpost of Heaven - the kingdom is coming here. Why would the existing heaven need to be colonized?? Even the simplest language is too confusing.
@magichobbiest3425
@magichobbiest3425 4 ай бұрын
He also said he spoke in parables so people may not understand and then repent and be forgiven in Mark 10 and 12. What you're saying makes sense because then it doesn't destroy the Jewish belief of the resurrection and life of everlasting peace forever on earth. I didn't explain the last part too well

@36:17 This should be its own discussion. He is agreeing that you must do the work but that works dont matter. Sectarianism cannot square these two comtrary ideas. They dont align. If you tell people that works dont matter long enough - they will stop producing works and you will end up with what we have now.
@TheNabOwnzz
@TheNabOwnzz 4 ай бұрын
Nobody is saying works don't matter; they don't matter in that nothing of works can in any way save you, but it is a necessary consequence of faith, and the person infused with such a Spirit will, by his new nature, automatically be compelled to do such works, not to be saved, but because he wants to please Christ. This entire contention of yours has already been refuted countless times by the reformators.

@@HaleStorm49That depends on the circumstance. The robber on the cross didn't do any good work because he had no opportunity to do them after repenting. But again, because of their faith, they will be naturally inclined to want to do them.

If the Founding Fathers had been meek, they would have submitted to King George. After all, Paul told us in Romans 13:1 that the governing authorities, (the pagan Romans at the time) were established by the Lord. Both Paul and Peter told enslaved people to submit to their earthly masters. (Colossians 3:22, 1 Peter 2:18) Instead, the Founding Fathers asserted themselves and their principles, aimed toward earthly happiness, rather than "spiritual salvation." It was by being the opposite of meek, submissive and suffering that the USA was founded. It was by individuals' earthly pursuit of happiness in science and industry that the USA grew into an economic and military superpower.

From Cambridge dictionary: meek: "quiet, gentle, and not willing to argue or express your opinions in a forceful way" The meaning of "meek" is not just anything one pastor decides to make up, to rationalize his religion. @@imcat-holic10

Granted that America shouldn't have rebelled against King George. Even so, God seems to have been with the American people in many situations. Peter John Marshall wrote 2 books that looked at the many ways that God has delivered our nation. Currently we are at a place where we need to repent as a people and seek God's guidance. Without massive changes, we will fail and be destroyed as a country.

Go Vegan Avatar? You have your own tales you live by, yet which will liberate and inspire the many? Not a cult that ignores the the health of the followers and the inevitable suffering of any harvest, vegetable or animal. The doctrine that goes back thousands of years is ahimsa: which is do less harm. That doctrine does not speak to deriding another's beliefs, because you lack the ability to be confident enough in your own beliefs to live and let live? The lessons are universal, it is a 'we and us', and 'I and thou', not a 'you you, me me' centred view....

Lefty master-ratheists do not argue, they *project.* OP is referring to "terror avoidance," a "theory" advanced by a b**thurt "new atheist". In truth, it says far more about OP and their ilk than it does about successful faith-based lifestyles. Blue states crapped their collective pants over COVID, because it reminded them of their mortality. They also tear down statues, even those of revolutionary figures ideologically aligned with them, because these remind them that time indeed passes and, again, they are mortal and will die someday. TL;DR : It doesn't take a genius to observe that religion is not a crutch for people who cope with death, rather, the truth is the exact opposite: Atheism is usually a crutch for people who can't handle *life* .

Even as an atheist I believed in an afterlife especially after studying Sam Parnia. We'll know soon because in the future we'll be able to bring back people who are dead for two hours
