She is SUPER adorable!!!! I had my dog spayed she developed a post-spay hernia. She needed surgery again to fix it. The vet was fresh out of school and my dog was his very first spay. All in all, everything wet fine with the second surgery....no more complications. :) PS - he is an exceptional vet! VERY, very nice man and so compassionate. I wouldn't hesitate to have him do surgery on any my dogs. :)

Ty, believe this has happened to my girl, stitches look good. Just a little swollen (soft) pocket near outside stitches & she has good color, not red/infected. I'll send pics to vet, but this made me feel a bit better about it🤗

Very helpful -- my dog has a seroma following surgery to remove a mass. I understand it much better now and know it can wait until his post-op check.

Well mine won’t go away!! What kind of antibiotics should my vet prescribe??? I just don’t want any real strong antibiotics if not necessary. Thanks a lot for the info!

Thank you for this info. It was hard to find!! My poor kitten has a seroma which developed about a day after her spay. I can palpate it without her meowing or crying, and is NOT hot or red... but she did have a heck of a time right after returning home from surgery. She was loopy and flipped out, panicked and ran amok! Sounds like that's all it took! After the 5-min chaos- I isolated her from running and jumping (w her big sisters) & she is solo - recouping in a cozy safe bedroom with lots of safe napping options. Her cattitude is just as sweet and curious as ever. Good sign. I've read that warm compresses help... thoughts about that??

@@maritalorain it went away on its own, but if it stays for longer time than the doctor removes it by syringe, nothing to worry about

My cat had this as a kitten. It went down after a month or so but I can still feel it very well. Her fur is now covering but it's still quite a bump. It's soft and not as inflated as it was. Is this fine? Should I leave it be? It's been almost a year and she' spends a lot of time laying on her back requesting belly rubs. I'm not sure if the spot may be bothering her and rubbing her belly helps?

Does a seroma feel different than a hernia at the spay sight? My puppy has a firm painless lump at her incision site. She has has no reaction when I touch it or press on it so I'm pretty sure it's not painful. I'll call my vet when they open tomorrow but sure hoping it's just a seroma. Hopefully another surgery isn't necessary 🤞

hi Doc :) ... My dog clooney , just had surgery a week ago, on his neck, he had a cyst of some sort that we got it removed. A few days after the surgery, his neck swole up again. However, i can feel it (watery) not hard, and was wondering, should i give him antibiotics, (ceclor 500mg, Cortizon as well.. ) ? Will it go down on its own? .. How long will it take it to go down on its own? Thanks in advance

My puppy is experiencing the same issue that the dog in this video is having. I took my dog back to the vet and I was told that it is in fact a Seroma. It was recommend that I continue with keeping the dogs activity to a minimum for 7-10 days. Do you feel that the dogs activity has to be limited past the recommended 7-10 days now that she has a small Seroma?

+Steve Brenner Usually will be resorbed by 2 weeks and won't cause any issues. Activity will be OK

my dog just restitched a few days ago because her stitches open from too muck leaking. so they had to reopen and stitch her again. Its her second day healing but I can still see a little blood with liquid oozing from the stitch. Is that okay? will it just stop on its own? 😔

A true suture reaction is quite uncommon if you are using an absorbable monofilament like PDS. Likely the seroma was caused by incompletely obliterating the deadspace coupled with patient activity. I routinely close my OHE incisions in 3 layers and on a dog that size I would use 3-0 PDS simple continuous on the linea, 4-0 PDS simple continuous with the deep pass biting into the rectus fascia and the skin closed with 4-0 PDS subcuticular pattern. Honestly, I have never had a surgical site seroma on a routine procedure (OHE or castration). If surgical site seromas or hematomas are common, that individual should have some more CE in surgical techniques. Most surgical complications (in routine procedures) are a result of what the surgeon did or didn't do. Tissue handling, suture selection, pattern, and application are by far the most common causes of complications in OHE and castration surgical sites.

Animuldok Glad that you don't have many problems. Many times the vet can't help what the dog does at home. I do all the things you mentioned and have occasional issues with the suture line. Even after being fast, gentle, and 3 layers.

Hello, I came upon your channel because I'm trying to figure out what's going on with our baby, 14 year old lab mix, Rusty...he had a rear leg amputation, ended up with infection of 3 bacterias (E. Coli, Psuedomonas Aeruginosa, Enterococcus Faecalis), he finished his metronidazole and is currently on Entrofloxacin and Chloramphenicol...his incision is normal for the most part except now two red bumps are growing...is this normal? Will this go away since he's on antibiotics?...I wish I could send you a before and after photo....

I have an American Bulldog/Boxer she's just a puppy about 3 months now. She had a little surgery today bc her Leg was so swollen that the next day (today) she had a hole where my thumb could go in. She eats, drinks, runs and play like normal I brought her home and she has a rubber tube sticking out of her leg and the lady said that's now it'd suppose to be till I go back in 5 days. my question is is the tube out like that a procedure?! I'm just concerned bc the vet woman seemed to be annoyed about me asking so many questions.
@DrGregDVM
@DrGregDVM 9 жыл бұрын
+Becky Love The tube is there so the infection can drain out and not be closed in. The abscess or bite wound needs to heal from the inside out

My dog keeps licking her forearms to the point of where her skin is pink and red and loosing the fur around it. She will go to her bed and just start licking and chewing it. My mom researched it and she thinks it may be licdermitis (hopefully I spelt that right!) I'm not sure what to do!!?

We had our almost 2 year old Korthals spayed last Thursday. She hates the cone so we have a tank top on her lol. I have to watch her because she will try and sneak off to lick. (She is 58lbs) I was wondering....when our vet sent her home they did not give her any pain medication for home use. She came home Thursday night and was very sleepy and it was obvious she was on medication but it wore off by Friday AM. I thought she would have been given something? Friday and Saturday she cried and whined often. But Sunday and today she seems ok though once in a while she cries out.

She just sat she didn’t jump lol. I’m not sure why he reacted like that. It reminds me of a vet that was so terrified of my teacup poodle that was not aggressive what you ever but was what I’d say animal version of adhd and just was playful when she should have been suffering or still, but at home you tell her to shoot she will sit until you tell her it’s ok. She was not socialized as she was mainly indoors dog especially cold part of Canada. So anyway every time she wagged her tail excessively and playfully licked everyone in her site the vet would stop talking and get super serious asking me “ what what is she doing is she aggressive what is she doing why is she licking me “ lmfao. How do you explain to the vet nope she’s not aggressive never has been, she is licking z she is overly excited and quite frankly no I can’t stop her lol do deal with it. I’m never go to a vet that can’t handle some little dog licks lol. He suggested I muzzle her next time I take her in, needless to say I never took her there again. In fact other vet loved the fact that she was so lively and greeted her when licks .
