Let me know how many crabs do you think there will be in a few months? I'm guessing around 93, but it certainly could be more. If you get close (within 5 + or -) I'll shout out in that future video! Enjoy, and have a great weekend SerpaSquad!

During my research for a pet, I've come across many articles on how bad the hermit crab keeping is. Between being mostly wild caught, having poor set ups, and keeping a group organism in a solitary environment, I'd love to see your take a proper set up for hermit crabs. I believe with your reach and expertise/research ability, you could make a hobby altering set-up.

The update I've been holding my breath for! This is my favorite build. Something about the dark lava rock, twisted (yet cohesive) spider wood, dark green foliage, and black water is so beautiful. It all works together so well. I hope it doesn't get dismantled and another creature goes inside, but I would imagine it's necessary to tear it apart to get all the inhabitants out. Oh well, sometimes beauty isn't meant to last!

116 crabs will be present in 3 months. The rate of growth will increase as the population increases so its exponential growth. That’s about all I remember from calculus 25 years ago.
@elephantofdoom15 сағат бұрын
However as the population increases competition for food will increase which will both slow the breeding rate and lead to more cannibalism
@BeauLeonard15 сағат бұрын
@ great point and I never considered that aspect. I revise my estimate down to 96.
@lornacy13 сағат бұрын
@@elephantofdoom Is the food supply limited, though? Tanner feeds them after all. This isn't an exact analog of their natural environment.

usually 1 female breed 20~30 babies, but few of them will be eaten by adults and fish, so i guess about 120~132 and they don't like to have water puddle in their hide out, and they like to eat some soft leaves and moss so they would eat Cryptocoryne, i had planted them as well, and most of them had gone

I kept Wooley hand crabs in a huge 2m by 1m aquarium here in the Netherlands in the 1990s they are an invasive species in my country they have fluff on their main claws hens the name they like living under rocks and bricks, like the crabs I harvested these from the wild. These crabs are escape artists and they are tough!! I found an escapee in my room half a year after I noticed it had gone and I couldn't find it and, it was fine! They were also prolific in reproducing at times the aquarium floor was all baby crabs which I shared with my aquarium nerd friends one of the lines is still going in 2024 with a good friend although he does eat some when there are too many adult crabs my friend is Chinese and eating Wooley hand crabs is part of his culture so his aquarium is both fun and a farm!
