Serpentine belt replacement, 2003 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 L V8 - VOTD

Belt replacement: 15 to 30 minutes ($30 / $120 / $210)
In this video I replaced the serpentine belt on a 2003 Jaguar XJ8. It has the 4.0 L v8 engine that is NOT supercharged. I'm sure this process is the same for other XJ8, etc. cars.

Great video which describes in detail the steps to replace a serpentine belt. The idea of drawing the routing of the belt is excellent. I always think I can remember but sometime I miss something. Not a good sign, looks like a head gasket leak tbh. And that is a b&*%h to repair on that jaguar.

No, it had a leaking hose.

I do not advise that. I replace those parts when they go bad.

I was driving and all of the sudden I had a van not charge battery light and couldn’t turn my steering wheel is it related to the serpentine Belt ?

I have a coolant leak on my x350 XJR. The belt is now squealing and sometimes seems to slip as the alternator voltage drops. Could it be the belt? Seems like a coincidence that both issues are happening at the exact same time.

Probably. Fix the leak before you blow the engine. No one wins playing coolant roulette. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Excellent video Robert! I have the problem on my 1998 XKR but I think it is the same engine. If it is you just saved me 1000 Euros . Your video shows me that it is a relatively easy job which Jaguar would have a charged a fortune for doing? Thanks :-)

shame. I have a sort of grating noise at the front of engine, either water pump or another pulley. Sounds like a dry bearing
