I share my approach to creating a Soft Trance Pluck using Serum with this easy to follow tutorial. The lack of free preset download is purposely done as I believe learning something by doing is much more advantageous to anyone wanting to learn sound design.

I don't have Serum but what I really like about these tutorials apart from the way you explain everything and show it visually is a lot of the information is to a certain extent transferrable to different synths,its like "oh thats what that does,thats how and what you can use it for".Getting your head around envelopes,filters,oscillators,modulation and all the other parameters and what they do is mindblowing when you dont know.I learnt some stuff about Pigments I didnt know how to do on your last couple of videos and tried them.Usually I just sit there and twist knobs lol.Invaluable stuff.Thanks

That’s great to hear your learning new stuff that will help your on the journey to understanding. This preset can be recreated in Vital for example, the same step apply it’s just the layout that is different. 👍🏼😎

Very good tutorial! The fact that you explain every function of the wheels and effects makes it perfect for beginners like me :)

Not seen this before. A great insight Demis. Out of everything in music production do you like sound designing best?

Sound Design is a love and dislike but overall I appreciate I can work on sound design as part of my everyday work. 😎 I have a cinematic pack arrive soon for Vital, not always trance in this studio 🤓

Nice to see you back Demis. I hoped you might have been doing more sound designs using Dune🤞. There's zillions of Serum tutorials out there, but sadly not many at all for Dune, which IMHO is the best sounding synth out there right now. 👍

Amazing, would love more soft trance style serum tutorials, this and the bladerunner one are great.

Serum is the coldest sounding synth I´we heard (and therefore never use it), but the sound you made sounds quite ok, actually. Well done!

That's Serum for ya 👍🏻, adding warmth to a sound is just one extra step but very doable when couple with some nice saturation too. 😎

Hello m8. Love the tutorial, its just what i needed! Two questions though. What does by passing do? Also whats the difference in connecting the filter cutoff to the mod wheel vs the macros

I think you got me a similar sound to what I was looking to create. It has a sounds quite a bit like the plucky sound in on a good day by A&B. very cool! Didn't realise that was an easy to get this sort of sound. Strangely it also has a similar sound to other parts of A&B sound creation.

A&B have a lovely texture to their productions and the soft approach is more suited to the style. The synth is only the beginning the chain is where the character is finalised.

Another awesome one sir…having the filter at the beginning of the fx chain might offer more flexibility if you wanted to have more highs in the verb/delay. Sounds sweet regardless.. cheers

Very interesting Demis. Thanks for making this. I have a question tho, you've got multiple mods to the filter cutoff. How does Serum handle this? Is there a hierarchy? Does it average them?

They work simultaneously just think of it as layering up different envelope shapes. One is for attack, one is for the body and so forth. There maybe a more technical answer and if anyone does know more I am sure they will drop a comment here.🙂

@@demishellen I am glad that teaching is the trajectory you chose, but despite the fact that it's not my concern the reasons why you don't focus on releasing the tracks and djying, I cannot think this isn't a waste. Trance fans should hear your music, but anyway, good luck and thank you for the tutorials!

If you watch Joris Voorn Studio Jam | Melodic Techno - Korg 2600 M, a video that came out last month and listen to the amazing synth sound he comes up with, if you could make a tutorial similar to that that would be amazing, even if it had to be paid for.

Thanks for the video. Your voice is relative low on your videos compared to the sound.

And that's a good thing. Hate when the voice is hurting my ears because the sound of the music is so low that I have to turn it up. This is a perfect balance Demis.👍🏻

@@oledahl. You need to find the right balance so you dont need to turn up and turn down the volume when the music plays
@oledahl.
@oledahl. 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidpurple3698 yeah of course, and this video is just perfectly balanced in my opinion. What I was referring to was of course those vids where you can't find the right balance. Where you need to choose one over the other. If its well balanced that isn't an issue and I've never found this to be an issue on Demis’ videos. But Demis has that nice night radio voice so maybe for some it is perceived as low in volume but I find it just perfect. 👌

this is down to the side chain on my voice not dipping far enough. Its a setting I missed while editing the video. Don't worry it is one time problem just on this video. 🙂

omg the video is 3 minutes in, you've already called the filter resonance "release," and forgot that you turned your reverb off to hear your delay... wow.
