This is the Asustor FS6707T 6x M.2 NVMe SSD NAS! The dual 2.5GbE ports can get over 500MB/s to one PC by selecting a single checkbox. As SSD prices drop, this might be one to look at for the #homelab

I suppose. I was going to say for the right price it's not bad, but 2.5gb could be a bottleneck for fast nvme. I suppose if you go with lower end slow nvme this could be an overall value package. Like building any system, it needs to be balanced for the application. Possibly certain storage redundancy configurations could see that the interface speed is not the bottleneck.

Why in the world would you hamper a device with six NVMe drives with a measily 2.5 gbps interface for? You're getting no more performance than you would out of a single 5400 rpm HDD! HEY INDUSTRY!!! GIVE US FASTER NETWORK INTERFACES ALREADY!!!!

You want 400Gbps? Get some cards where you can plug does "SFP"-modules in and you're golden :D But in this case dual 2.5Gbps is slow. Put dual 10G on it then at least

@@TheChadXperience909To be fair though, I haven't seen anything else in the market that allows an all-flash NAS option in anywhere NEAR the footprint. I recently built an all flash NAS in a Silverstone CS280 but even after converting the PCIe bays to extra hot swap bays, it wound up costing about as much for the case+mobo+ram+os storage+cables/cards/adapters as the 12-bay version of this unit for 2 fewer drives. It's also an inch wider and more than 3 times taller. Despite being limited to a single PCIe lane, each drive also still outperforms the SATA drives too

Why limit yourself to just two 2.5GB ports even in thi specific version of 6 port? do you have the possibility to have a very high bandwidth with nvme ssds and then put only two ports at 2.5gb? Why ? as other users above said already, for me it is dead on arrival

@@ServeTheHomeVideo if you have the workload you mention it makes no sense to get an apparatus that has 6 nvme ssd slots. it is logical to think so because a nvme pcie3 ssd for example has an average bandwidth of 2/3gbps (both in read and in write). that said, why have nvme ssds that potentially go 2/3gbps and only two ports with a maximum total bandwidth of 500mbps ? it is clearly a bottleneck. it didn't take much to make the device future-proof, i.e. add an sfp+ port or a 10gb eth port. Why be forced to get the 12 slot version? the 6-port version may well have one or two 10gbe ports. no sense in my opinion.

If they slapped on (2) 10-Gbps Ethernet ports and 3 HDMI ports and outfitted all the USB's to 3.2 and (4) USB-C 40's, then maybe this would be worth it.

The CPU in these units only has 8 PCIe lanes to begin with. Adding what you asked would degrade disk performance or require a more robust chip with more lanes, requiring more than the existing passive heatsink to cool it, so size/cost/system noise would all go up. This thing fills an odd niche, but does so quite well so far.
