Service Brake! Visit Workshop! How to fix Mercedes SBC error c249f

The Mercedes SBC system is notorious for its issues. One error which I came around at my cheap Mercedes e class, is the Service Brake! Visit Workshop! error at my dash. This indicates a problem with the SBC pump. In case it is caused by error c249f, it just indicates a threshold has been reached. This doesn't say anything about the SBC pump itsself, it indicates that Mercedes find it nescecary to replace the SBC pump to prevent issues.
In this video I'll show you how to reset it with a 35 USD tool from Amazon. It worked for me, however, do be aware that Mercedes considers it unsafe to use the brakes after the threshold has been reached.

I bought my Mercedes with this indicator already on.. after 4 months of having it it finally started acting.. thanks to a great mechanic, he told me Mercedes will fix this for FREEEEEEEEEEE....... They extended the warranty on this 25years because it's such a common issue...

Unfortunately the warranty conditions differ per country. Here in Europe Mercedes is not that generous. 😟 Good addition tough, it never hurts to ask Mercedes for it.

@@Siemi1yes in the UK the warranty was only for 10 years, in the USA 25yrs because the Americans will sue em at the drop of a hat, & peoples lives in the UK are considered of less value than the Americans. This is a shit DANGEROUS design fault & should NEVER allowed to be used 😔SHAME on Mercedes Benz 🤮

Mercedes have recalls on all E models from 2002 to 2008 regarding this issue. Go to Mercedes and ask for SBC electronic breaks system recall.

Is it worldwide? I live in asia and my car has this error pops up, but different code when it's read by the diagnostic tool, the code is c2130

It`s USA only . If you live in Europe ( I am UK) you are screwed. You have to pay yourself.

Good afternoon, in another podcast it was mentioned that the earliest model of SBC has a smaller carbon of 5mm x 5mm. The later model was at 6mm x 8mm. This meant that carbon brush contact area is almost x2 large. Any idea what year SBC was upgraded with large carbon brush?. If reset of SBC does not work I am thinking of sending SBC to England for rebuilt. 🤔🤔🤔🤔Regards.

you plugged the plug into the scanner socket and then it beeps and the stop plate in red but you didn't show how you did it you skipped the most important step I didn't see how you could remove or erase the exclamation point!!!!!!!!!

It will only work temporarily I brought this it worked but didn't last long. Eventually the accumulator will go all the way bad. Luckily Mercedes extended warranty here for 25 years yaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy

MR I HAVE SAME PROBLEM...I PRES THE BRAKE AND THE NOISE START DOING LIKE IN YOUR VIDEO AND SAME RED LIGHT ON SCREEN....MU MECHANIC SAID IS THE ABS PUMP BUT THE CAR HAVE ONLY 90 000 MILES AND IS 320CDI...WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Even after getting the brakes and braking system done and reset. After hard braking it comes back on. Its annoying to get it reset every time

Is the service brake powered by the auxiliary battery?

As a backup it is. Since the brakes are rather important. If the first source of power fails, there should be a backup. That's why it shows as a white warning as well.

I believe Mercedes warranty this SBC system for 25 years, take it to the dealer there should be no charge

Hi siemi sir... Great job... I own a w211 2005 model and recently the sbc started making a vibrating sound and now it is making a beeping sound on the dash board and the brakes stiffen alot... What do you thinks is the cause of this ... I need your respond asap please cause my mechanic told me that i have to replace the sbc and its very expensive here. Thank you sir

Top man, resetten zonder de SBC pomp intern na te kijken. Hoop niet dat je een keer bij mij zonder remmen achterin vlamt omdat mijn SBC wél werkt.

Mercedes heeft met een terugroepactie precies hetzelfde gedaan. Dat is de reden waarom Mercedes dit software matig toestaat. In het begin was de levensduur te voorzichtig aangehouden. Later bleek dat het aantal bewegingen dat deze pomp aan kan hoger ligt. Overigens, de mensen die ik geholpen overwogen nooit een nieuwe pomp en reden soms al jaren met deze melding.

I have a cls500 I recently change my front brake I use the tool but the error message don’t go away..is the any more thing I can do to get the message off??

If you replace the break pads, make sure you place the break pad sensor correctly. If pads are changed but the sensor is not put in properly it will still show error

hello there friend, i own w211 e240 2003, 2 days ago after a long drive from the other city after i parked my car and i was greeted with the red screen REDUCED BRAKE EFFECT, INCREASED BRAKE DISTANCE, i had the same issue like u had before and i checked with the OBD it says C2131 which points SBC has some issue and i also hear vibration noise i want to ask will this help to resolve my issue? i would be grateful if you reply thank you

Unfortunately that error indicates that it will need a new presure reservoir. You might want to check with the local mb service center of they cover it. Otherwise an independent and knowledgeable workshop can replace just the reservoir, which is the most cost effective if mb doesn't cover it.

People replace ABS wheel speed sensor beacuse speed sensor Will not work cruise control ABS brake ESP traction Brake light switch out Brake lights stuck on if you have problem shifter gear Is the break lights broke or you have to programing the module the front SBC

how much to choose% to reset? how to count?

It's best to not put it on 100% right away. It can be updated up to 100%, after which a reset doesn't work anymore. By choosing small steps you can see how much life there is still remaining in the counter.

I have a 2006 CLS 500 Mercedes Benz and I replaced my stop light switch, which I thought the error light would go off. But for no avail, it didn't. Therefore, I purchased that 35 USD tool and tried to reset my braking error. However, it didn't work.

check your wheel speed sensors. Easy to undo and clean off. I put a small flat screw driver wrapped with paper towel down there and GENTLY as possible pushed it to the ring and wiped it by turning the disk. I did that but still have the light. I am looking at changing wheel speed sensors now. My car is very low mileage.

I’ve got this problem,I’ve done the same but it did not fix it.also when it shows my power steering gets heavy, so it’s most probably the sensor ring on the back left or right hub ( or both ) Very expensive 😤 The 211 is a nice car but has some shit design faults 😔

The 2006 CLS model still featured the infamous sbc system. Then this applies to that model as well. However, it might be that later models are no longer equipped with the sbc, but use a traditional system. When this warning is thrown chances are really high that it is. So, short answer, yes.

Hi,, I had the same issue and it's coming on red ,, I visited workshop and computer message is showing SBC fault need to be replaced,, knowing that my brakes are fine and working perfectly, and brakes beds and sensors all changed. If I do this ,, and choose 50% will be ok ,, my car milage is 288000 km.
