I agree. I got into it with someone on FB yesterday about this. They say prongs are harmful and suggested someone shock their their when doing bad things. I explained that prongs are not harmful IF used properly but most people dont use them properly. They didnt think continuously shocking their dog was harmful but was against prongs which I found surprising

As a dog trainer I prefer non-aversive methods of leash training, and other tools that are more foolproof for my clients, but acknowledge that when used properly prong collars don’t physically harm most dogs

I love my biothane leash, in alberta/Canada there's a lot of paper work and training to go into the dog. We have to do a test when the dog is done training, we have to be certified to be protected under the law. The dog also has to be identified as a service dog or service dog in training. I say have fun with your gear and stuff with your dog!

For my service dog in training me and my mum actually made her vest and we have also made a y front harness with a pull strap and cape cuz we are very artsy people and also for example the harness and cape set would be £50-£100 so very expensive whereas we can just make a set for about £10-£20 and they look professional. And I know people are like Dont get loads of gear for her she's not even a service dog yet but we got a vest cuz of issues with public access and it helped but a harness is 10 better for me

Hiiiii, first off I want to say I just found your videos today And I love them. I’ve been looking into esa’s for a while now but after talking to multiple people and starting to educate myself I realized I truly need a physiatric service dog. I didn’t know that I could get a service dog for the certain problems I have (ptsd, severe anxiety and anxiety attacks, and depression) I realized that a service dog could really benefit me and help me in multiple different ways. I feel like I may have finally found something that could actually help as dogs have always helped me a lot before and a service dog could help me way more and help me do every day tasks other may be able to do. Anyways getting to the point one question I’ve had and never been able to figure out is how do I register my dog as a service dog after they’re trained. I don’t have a dog I plan to make a service dog yet but I’m going to do a lot more research and talking in the next two years but I do 100% plan on getting a service dog. thank you so much, and Dallas is beautiful.

Hi, so I definitely know that psych service dogs are great for the issues you stated. Tasks such as deep pressure therapy, behavior interruption, anxiety alert (dog alerts to different things like tapping legs, breathing heavy, fidgeting…). For your question about the registration… so there is actually no registry for service dogs in the United States. Websites online might sell “registrations” and “certificates” but those documents don’t mean anything under the law and the department of justice doesn’t even recognize them as proof that a dog is a trained service animal. The only things you need to consider your dog a service dog is that u have a disability that a dog can be trained to help u with by performing tasks. And that the dog be task trained to help you with your disability. If u want to take your dog to public places you will have to do lots of socializing and training to make sure your dog behaves impeccably and is always under your control. That’s it, no tests, no paperwork. But you just have to make sure that if u take it everywhere it’s trained in public access. There is a public access test your dog can take if u chose to. But it’s not required. U can look up a video of the public access test just to see what it consists of. But the test is not required, although what the test consists of is (dog under control at all times, no aggression towards people or other dogs, dog is not disruptive, does not beg for food.. things like that are what’s in that test)

never use dog seat belt by the collar. There should be a harness safe for that to clip it on to otherwise its not a good idea at all.

For your consideration: I grew up in an Era were prong collars and e-collars were used alot. Now after having my own SD business in the US for 17 years, (and now 3 years in Europe) I highly advise against it. If a pup has past a SD aptitude test, we should work with their pack-drive through leadership skills. In the long run, it will get the dog to "listen", but it will stop the dog from learning how to make safe choices on it own. Training through positive reinforcement and shaping behaviors take a bit longer, but when we are not able to control a situation (due to fugues, unconsciousness, etc) the dog will be lost, stressed and not able to think on their own. And please do not use them in Europe (France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden. Not sure about the legality in Italy, Greece or Baltic Nations) you WILL be arrested for animal cruelty. Even a vet must report the owners. The only exception is if your dog has a bite record. And honestly, I'd much rather train with reward for good behavior. How many of us got our "chain jerked" and zapped by abusive parents and/or a cruel society? How willing are we to follow that guidance willingly? Best of luck to you

the e collar doesn’t even “zap” badly like you’re making it seem .. it is like a tap on the shoulder to redirect attention . it doesn’t hurt them it’s not harmful to use in training

It depends on the day. Normally I have my treat pouch with some treats in it, ADA cards and poop bags all in the pouch. Then a water bowl. That’s about it

I didn’t take my e collar on the trip. But you shouldn’t have problems. They may ask u to take it off with the rest of your dogs gear when going through the metal detector though

Yes, however if the dog is not fully trained that could cause some problems. I’d say if the dog is public access trained and prepared to go through security you should be fine but if the dog still makes a lot of mistakes they could tell u no bc it’s not fully trained.

So technically a small dog can be a service dog however they are not common bc they can be harder to train and they cannot do a lot of the tasks a large dog can do. The vest is not needed, but people put vests on their service dogs to make others aware that the dog is working, that way they know not to pet or distract the dog. However people will pet the dog anyway sometimes. The vest does not make the dog a service dog and does not give a dog the right to go into public. The department of justice also states that vests, certificates, or registrations do not have any legal standing and does not make the dog a service dog. To be a service dog the dog must go through lots of training to learn how to be in public places. The dog must also learn how to preform specific tasks to assist their handler with their specific disability. U can also watch my service dog laws video and it talks all about the regulations and laws regarding service animals.

You don’t need a service dog for those thing’s always, it just depends on how disabling it is to the person. Something that many people forget is that diagnosis does not always equal disability. That’s why it’s always good to consult a doctor who knows u to see what their thoughts are. But there are psychiatric service dogs that are for anxiety and PTSD. They do things like behavior interruption, deep pressure therapy, crowd control, anxiety alert and response. I can research a lot about the different tasks to see if any of them would benefit u.

I have been looking into getting a service dog for my eating disorder, and I have medical professionals opinions (they believe I would greatly benefit from a service dog as part of recovery). Anyways, I wanted to reach out knowing that you originally got Dallas for your ed. I was wondering exactly what tasks a service dog can do to help with recovery from anorexia and other poor eating patterns? Hi, I have some tasks that might help you. One thing is anxiety alert, so you can train a dog to paw at u or nose bump you when they notice anxious behaviors such as fidgeting, leg tapping, heavy breathing (helpful during meals out to eat and stuff).. another thing would be Deep pressure therapy where the dog can lay on your lap to apply pressure during an anxiety attack to help u calm down. Find an exit is a more advanced task to train but might be helpful in the time of a panic attack. Light pressure therapy is helpful when your dogs under the table. They can lay their head on your lap to help distract you from Ed thoughts while eating.

You can also train a dog to remind u to eat (to help u maintain a healthy schedule with eating snacks and meals). It’s a more advanced task to train and definitely takes consistency. You train the dog to alert u (paw at u or nose bump u) persistently during certain times of the day. The will eventually start to do it on their own. Also “get medicine” is a good task if u have an emergency anxiety medication. The dog can go get it for u while u are having a panic attack. During the time of a relapse mobility can be difficult due to fatigue and weakness, so u can teach them to pick things up for u, they can give u forward momentum pull (with a soft handle on the harness)

Psychiatric service dogs learn and provide services for ptsd and all of that. They can do deep pressure therapy, help you take your pills on time, adhd and depression. Also if you are having disruptive behaviors with them they can learn to spot them and interrupt them. They can seek help for u if your panic attacks are like mine and you have seizures with them by getting help.
