Excelent video explaining many of the aprs services. Some I have heard others no knowledge about them. Very practical use.

There is some weird squawking on GMRS 7 in the Toronto area, I can hear it around the west end of the GTA, every 10 min it squawks 5 times Some one told me they think it’s some sort of sprinkler system??? Unless it very common (but I cannot find any evidence online) it must be very powerful since I can here it over a 30 KM Range Anyway not related but the mention of “bots” on radio reminded me of this

Always fun when you find something interesting, may be worth doing an RDF one day?

Thanks for the video! I've got two questions: what sort of APRS paths are you using with these services? And what's that slick PC app that you're using? Thank you!
@SignalsEverywhereАй бұрын
The application is APRSISCE/32 and I'm using the IS connection in the video to ensure things ran smoothly during recording. My usual path is WIDE1-1 though, we have a local Digi/iGate but it gets congested.

Very cool. Im retired and want to camp out in the boonies, outside of cell range, and APRS could give me at least minimal connectivity out there. 👍🏻

There have been bots, of the malicious variety, on APRS/WSPR/JT8 and many of the other automated data modes for a while. It is getting to the point that there are as many bot and fake callsigns as there are actual hams or real traffic.
@SignalsEverywhereАй бұрын
I've been waiting to see some more devious uses of the network I'm sure it happens, but it's also easy enough to monitor that I think a lot of that traffic gets caught, though I'm sure a lot of it sneaks by too. I always found it odd that bots were wrong without call signs, I get it in terms of making it easier for users to find it but that's not a call sign and I'm not sure how exactly that works from a legal standpoint on the amateur bands.

Nic vid. Quick and to the point. Looks like you organized your thoughts well. Or maybe you are inherently organized? Either way, thanks for the good info!

Editing magic, can't say I'm all that organized but I try 😂

Do I hear some kind of gameplay audio in the background? :D

Sounds like some kinda fantasy combat like swords clashing. Maybe I'm just weird 🤣

No you called it, my partner was totally playing Spyro. I have a directional microphone and I thought I was lucky enough to not capture it.

H-mas supporters leave antisemitic terror threats on APRS here.
@SignalsEverywhereАй бұрын
I have seen some nasty stuff just monitoring messages, just people being nasty to others in various ways. It's sad really.
@UNcommonSenseAUSАй бұрын
Pattern recognition is not antisemitic. Antisemitisim is a catch all excuse for anything a certian group does based on a fabricated event in the 2nd world war
