Great video but I just a Rittenhouse door chime from the 90s I cannot find a way to wire it in I got Terminal A and Terminal B what wires do I use on them and what wire do I use for the doorbell
@northsideservicecompany35673 жыл бұрын
Hi James: Without a Model Number of some more detailed information about your Rittenhouse Chime - I can only give you some "basic" help. The "A" and "B" Terminals are typically where the wires from the Transformer are connected (16 Volts AC @ 15-30 Watts (VA)). The wires from the Pushbuttons are usually connected - 1 wire to the "A" Terminal and the 2nd Wire to either "Front" - "Rear" or "Side". This wiring configuration for Rittenhouse 3 & 4 Tube - 8-Note Door Chimes (both Long and Short Tube models) - YMMV - Chris

Great Video. Very Helpful. I happen to have they exact same model but the transfo in the wall only gives me 10 VAC on the voltmeter. Trying to use it with batteries, but I cannot figure out the wiring of the door button (embarrassing, I know). My door button only has a 155 Ohms resistance, which drops to 0.5 Ohms when the button is pressed. I connected it all ways I could imagine but the chimes work constantly, no matter the configuration. Did you try it with 9V batteries?
@northsideservicecompany35673 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca: Your Transformer needs to be 16 Volts AC rated at a minimum of 15 Watts (30 watts is much better). The pushbutton wires are connected as follows - 1 of the 2 pushbutton wires is always connected to the "A" Terminal (regardless of if you're using s transformer or batteries) the 2nd pushbutton wire is connected to either the "Front" terminal for a Transformer - or - the "Front" terminal for Batteries . I did not try this particular Chime with batteries - I have repaired other Rittenhouse Chimes for customers who are using batteries, and they work fine. Does your Chime ring constantly without a pushbutton connected? - If it does, it needs to be repaired - Chris

@@northsideservicecompany3567 Hi Chris, I finally figured out a way to make it work, kind of. There are probably components that need servicing, including that transfo inside the wall that provides 10 VAC instead of 16. I started looking at it because the chime was working intermittently, meaning 50% of the time when there was someone at the door. The 10 VAC transfo was connected to terminals A and B and the door button to Terminal A and to the ''Front'' terminal - transfo side (right), but the unit was also powered with 2 9V batteries. (As if AC was used for the door button and 9V batteries to make the rest of the circuitry work) I found a similar interconnection diagram for a NuTone chime secure.img1-fg.wfcdn.com/docresources/971/25/250804.pdf Anyhow, I realized that when connecting the door button to the ''Front'' terminal on the 9V side (left), it would work constantly whether the door button was pressed or not - as if the voltage drop of the bulb was too low. I removed the light bulb, so now my door button is open or short (when pressed) and it works fine. Almost: there is no light at night in the door button and when pressed, all 4 chimes ring simultaneously, then the 8 tone melody plays... ...100% of the time...

@@ThePic1869tm i think the lack of correct voltage form the Transformer is at the heart of the problems with your Chime. Since the Chime is a solid-state device - being severely under powered will create all sorts on unusual problems - Chris

I have a fasco c8847r that looks identical. It works well but every once in a while it gives a single chime with out anything being activated.I only have the front door set up on the chime. Any thoughts on what the fix may be.

Hi John: Your Fasco Chime is actually a Rittenhouse Chime. Based on the information you have provided, it seems that it's time for your Chime to be rebuilt. You can contact us directly about having this done - Chris nscompany@msn.com
