Great stuff. I've been looking for a hassle free way to move physical things with lighting consoles and now I have one. From a simply physical shutter for a projector to complex set and prop piece movements, I now have a new first port of call. Thanks.

@@frightideas Got my Servo DMX and it's first gig is an easy 5 "drops" for an upcoming show. I've got mini servos to use for this project but I'm curious, can I use solenoids with this product or does it need the third wire to work out where the servo is at and would it get "confused" if I just plug the power wires into a solenoid and ask it to trigger?

The outputs can only drive devices designed to accept RC servo signals. They can't be connected directly to other types of loads. You can use a servo relay, like this one for that stuff: www.pololu.com/product/2804

@@frightideas Thanks. Currently, I'm using servos so I don't need that functionality but it's useful to know for later gigs. Next question. My Servo DMX does not show any blue LED. It took me freaking ages to get the DMX address set. I wound up just following the button presses shown on the set up video and ignoring the fact my servo DMX simply doesn't show a BLUE LED at any time during the process. It sure makes tracking where I'm at in the menu structure a pain in the ass. What's up with that?

Hi, thank you for this video - this is exactly what I've been looking for. What motors are you using there? Many thanks.

I’m completely new to this type of stuff. I’d like to know, if you could tell me, what kinds of motors are compatible with this? Are these motors able to handle heavy weight? If not, are there compatible ones that can?

Search for "RC servos". Basically any RC servo will work. They come in a variety of sizes from very small and cheap, to very large, strong, and expensive.

How do you set the power up positions? It's mentioned in the manual but I can't locate anything explaining how to do it. Also, how do you keep the servos from jumping when powering up or when DMX is applied? I'm waiting for my unit to arrive so I'm trying to get these things figured out ahead of time. Thanks!

Hi. It's in the Installer Setup Menu section. Four green blinks. Some servos always jump a bit when they are first powered up. This feature makes sure they don't power up and race to center at full speed. But it only works if the servo is in your set startup position before the ServoDMX is powered up, as the ServoDMX has no way to know what position the servo is actually in. If certain servos will always relax into the same position when power is removed, set that as the startup position and it will help minimize the jumping.

im wanting to make some small moveing heads for a model im builidng and wanting to use servos would this work ? for that purpose and would i be able to connect this to something like a ADJ WMX1 Wolfmix DMX Controller ?
@frightideas Жыл бұрын
Any device that outputs DMX should work as a controller. We haven't used the WMX1. As long as you can program it to change the channel values the way you want to move the heads it should work. Not sure how you do that on that device as it has no sliders. Maybe with the software.

could u use a dmx controller aka a lighting desk with this?

Yes

Will this support continuous rotation servos? Thanks!
@frightideas6 жыл бұрын
It should. They use standard servo signaling. The speed and acceleration features of the ServoDMX would just control how the servo rotates, rather than how quickly it moves to the selected position.

Thanks. Tonight i pressed the SET key and the servo moved , and now i can move it with the fader, thats my first step. But i plugged in the director connect and nothing happens, i wrote some random lines on channel servo 1but nothin happens. When it asks me to assign a controller there are some options with the picture but there's not servo dmx option so i just picked picko dmx but i guess is not the right option.
