Although my son is 20yo, he was just diagnosed with autism. I understand a lot more of him growing up now. I've been watching Sesame Street, probably since the beginning...I'm 50yo...& all of my kids also watched. Kudos to everyone involved in making this happen!

J B Me? I’m 50 myself. I was just diagnosed as having Asperger’s syndrome meaning I am a highly functioning autistic adult & I still enjoy Sesame Street. I wish we had a character like this when I was younger because it would have just given me more insight about stuff I am have been through & going through even now.

My little brother has autism but is on a farther part of the spectrum. He’s nine now and fully communicates with everybody and has such a funny personality. Though when he was little he didn’t begin talking until a little while before his first birthday. We had continuous therapy for him and that’s what has helped him be who he is today. I thank god that he kept track with progress and I hope everyone else has a blessed life and is thankful for ever thing they have

This not only helps people recognize others on the spectrum, it gives those who have it a better understanding. Growing up through school, I knew I was different from the other students and I didn't understand why. I believe it was when autism was just starting to be recognized cause I was diagnosed with it by the doctors during the early-mid 90s. Even then, While I 'kind of' knew what it was, I still had no idea how to socially connect with others. Now I have an 8 year old who inherited it from me (and his mother's side), and I am grateful that autism is recognized and easier to explain to him aswell as for all generations. Thank you Sesame Street. 🧩

I used to always equate autism with a severe case of down syndrome because they never really explained these things in school. I really think that Elementary schools should take the time to explain mental illnesses like autism, down syndrome and other learning disabilities.

because we don't need that type of stuff on children's television, different religions will get angry

Mississippi once thought they didn't need to see people of different races hanging out together on children's television because different people would get angry and banned the show from airing there in 1970. However, that ban only lasted a month because it's just a TV show.

I really do hope it helps people to better understand autism. Especially since "autistic" is often seen used as a very harsh adjective due to the context and way it is used.
