Why sorter transformation is active? Number of rows are same in output.. it should be passive right?

Hi sir one doubt i am using sorter tranformation just before joiner and i only need to join 2 fields from that table so should i pass all the fields in sorter or only those 2 fields which is going to be used in joiner?
