Thanks to this channel, it seems I am single-handedly contributing a measurable increase in this company’s revenue. 😅 Seriously folks, the combination of TOONTRACK virtual instruments and human-played MIDI continues to be so good that some of us (especially reasonably versatile guitarists) may be lost in our home studios forever.

DI shootout is a great idea. good to hear the EBX's in a a/b type fashion, rather than jumping from demo to demo on the toontrack site. cheers

You asked so I'll answer about flatwound bass string tone. :) I actually have a vintage 1962 Precision with flatwounds, so am interested in how this EZB expansion will compare. (I don't own EZBass because I am a bass player lol) Flatwounds are the original "vintage" style of electric bass string, designed to emulate the smooth feel of upright bass strings. This was familiar to people beginning to adopt electric bass over upright. You'll hear them on pretty much all Motown/Tamla, Stax/Volt, classic country records, and most of the early rock records with electric bass. Flatwound sound is mellower, with an emphasis on the pure fundamental of the note, and less so on the harmonic overtones. Groove players love flats. Slap players don't love flats. Flats are great when you want a bass to do what a bass should do, that is get butts to move by dominating the lows and low mids. Without creeping up into the upper harmonics occupied by guitars, keyboards, vocals and everybody else. It's not a "Look At Me" tone, it's a "Shut Up and Dance" tone. Roundwound strings came out later in the 60's when rock players like Chris Squire and John Entwhistle asked for brighter attack, and more harmonics than were possible with flatwound strings. They wanted to be heard as solo players over the crash and din of everyone else. It didn't take long for roundwounds to become the defacto standard. Flatwounds were considered passe' by many since the advent of roundwounds, but they are making a huge resurgence right now. As of right now, out of the 6 basses I own, only two have roundwounds on them. One of those two basses, the five string, is about to convert to flats forever. Hope that helps! I enjoy your channel brother!

In your final DI comparison of all EBXes, you missed the stock Vintage one ;) But other than that that's exactly what I was looking for! Instead of jumping between pages on their website and listening to totally different melodies... Thank you very much mate.

Great video. Thanks for demoing it. I’m tempted by this bass. I already have Classic (my favourite), Americana, Hard Rock & Upright. I need to find a third I like along with The Sixties to take advantage of the three pack.

Useful stuff. I haven't put in the time to experiment with all of the knobs on my installed EBX's just yet. It was good to see the effects, especially when it comes to taming that low end a bit by cutting back on the DI level.

I am streaming the first Saturday every month. Join me here: kzbin.info5s2na2u8rgY?feature=share Also in this video I talk about the amp blend knob multiple times, but I don't think I described it right until about @20:00. Meaning, you always hear the DI and use the knob to blend the amp tone in. From Melbourne (thank you): the HPF on the British Console is creating an "Resonant Shelf", which is sometimes a very desirable thing. I believe it's quite common on some analog eqs. Here's a quote I found about it, "As in the case of the resonant shelf, this shape is used to boost the signal at the cut-off frequency in order to color it, as well as emphasizing the lowest or highest part of your track. This EQ can give thump to a kick without overemphasizing the subs." From Dreaming Panthers (thank you): Flatwounds are the original "vintage" style of electric bass string, designed to emulate the smooth feel of upright bass strings. Hey Shawn. Thanks for another great vid. I'm really digging this EBX. Perhaps someone else has already explained this, but the HPF on the British Console is creating an "Resonant Shelf", which is sometimes a very desirable thing. I believe it's quite common on some analog eqs. Here's a quote I found about it, "As in the case of the resonant shelf, this shape is used to boost the signal at the cut-off frequency in order to color it, as well as emphasizing the lowest or highest part of your track. That's really cool to know that the theme, I assume of an SSL, is there down to this detail. Thanks so much for commenting on this, Melbourne!!

Midrange is probably how much mids you are boosting or cutting, Mid Freq is probably the mid frequency you are boosting or cutting. I would bet the amp is an Ampeg, I've seen SVT's with Ultra Hi and Ultra Low controls on them as well as similar midrange controls.
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool Жыл бұрын
Hi Steven. That's what I thought it was at first glance, but as you can see I proved that wrong, hence my confusion. It's two mid knobs working independently. My best guess is they were missed named and should have been hi-mid and low-mid or something. "Custom Flip Top Style" amp is all they're willing to tell.

Hi, your video would be a lot better if you did not move that tiny cursor all over the screen. From a teacher's perspective, you the teacher do not have to follow that small cursor with your eyeballs. From a student's perspective, the student does have to follow that small cursur with their eyeballs. For myself as a student, it is agonizing, painful, and stressfull to follow that small cursor with my eyeballs. I had to stop watching 2:45 into your video. This is a common flaw among teachers on the Internet.
