This is a lesson I need to have seep into my being. My materialism is out of hand. . When a three bedroom house isn't enough room for two people it's time to take inventory and make a change. Thanks 8th Day!

For the record, I believe this story is about the Chofetz Chaim. He was famously careful with money and time spent, as money was earned through time spent, and time is precious commodity in this world.

beautiful song - the story is from 100 years ago but it rings truer every day. (I have a slight critique at 6:24 where everyone is invited to the national jewish retreat, "at the Luxurious Omni Shoreham Hotel" - why are we emphasizing luxury when we just heard about treasures of another kind, so many other wonderful things that could be mentioned instead of luxury. the gap from the mind to the heart is more than a thousand miles
@ysiegel2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly the point. It was one of the great innovations in thought that the Lubavitcher Rebbe pioneered; in the end, it all depends on one's perspective in regards to the materialism. To explain: What if we were so disconnected from the importance and significance of materialism, that we were able to fully utilize it (as opposed to avoiding it) for a holy purpose, without it affected us? Rather than being drawn TOWARDS it, we are then able to take it and enjoy it within a SPIRITUAL paradigm. With this perspective, it would be a wonderful thing to offer the masses the most luxurious hotel and other accommodations, and make sure that the event itself is focused on spiritual pursuits, this uplifting all the material surroundings to new heights. Another thought to have in mind, is that we are careful to keep ourselves in check, but it is not appropriate to keep others from having their own material pursuits. Thus, when offering guests a place to stay for an event, one should make sure that it is the most luxurious available, while each individual to him/herself should know their own limitations in these areas.
Just like you passing through in this world but no longer of it my treasure is in heavenly places in Christ Jesus the Lord.

Perhaps I see or perhaps I'm blind... if you had my eye... are you trying to point out that a palace has a plethora of rooms you will never go in and take a long time to fill for vanities sake? Unless you plan on rounding up a bunch of homeless people and giving them a room to stay in... I suppose the palace is mostly useless. :)

+Rhonda Jervis - as I answered to Bruce Pollard - no such thing - you are either Christian OR Jewish - you can't be both!!!

@Lynne ~~~ Rhonda is right. One can be a jew, a christian, or a christian jew (to distinguish from a christian gentile). Anyway, you are right too, because a christian jew is simply a christian. ....but, at the end, what is the problem? All the people are a part of G-d great magnificent plan. Being jewish is good. Being christian is good. Each of us have to praise G-d, to respect the 10 commandments (minimum), to work for peace and justice, to pray for all the people, even for "enemies". Shalom from Italy to you all ♡♡♡
