Set the Default App For Opening a File On a Mac

I have a monthly routine where I have to process a number of .CSV files with Excel, and it was aggravating having to do Open With innumerable times to avoid Numbers coming up. Great - once again I learned something new. I do not use Microsoft anymore and open Microsoft items in Pages or Numbers - - but they kept on defaulting to Word or Excel. Now I took care of that and changed the default for all. You are such a great teacher!

Even after a restart? Look at what else you have installed that could be interfering. If you still can't figure it out, try Apple Support.

What happens when you're sent a keynote link and it automatically opens in the browser versus the app. I went through the steps of changing my own keynotes through the info function to default open in keynote but if someone shares a link with me it's still defaulting to open in the browser.

On the mac mini m1 silicon I hate that I have to right click on a folder then on the drop menu select (open in new tab) really? is there a setting I can change that I just click on folder once and it opens up from there to get inside the folder?

Is it that you want to open it in a new tab, or just look in the folder? Double-clicking should open the folder. But try Column View or List View instead which makes it easier to see inside folders without having multiple tabs open. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHLFdYOegpmSpZI

Make sure you are in the Finder, not some other app. Make sure you have something selected too.

Not sure. Never tried it. Step 5 on the page "Install Windows on your Mac" at help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2 certainly seems to suggest it can work.

@@macmost after copying the mp4 files from camera sd card to pc .some batch of files turned into 128kb and not supporting...and jpeg formats also turned into CR2 format ....

@@RRR5studio Not sure what could be going on there. Obviously 128kb videos are "empty" files. How are you transferring them? Are you sure you are grabbing the right files from the SD card?

Not sure what you are dealing with there. You wouldn't install it from a drive, you'd get it from Adobe online.

Hi, i got a problem when i changed from Adobe Pro Acrobat to the default app. Now I can not move a pdf-file from one desk to another. The PDF-file is blocked from going into the other desk. I usually have several pdf-files open on several monitors but I'm not able to do it anymore since I switched back to the default app.

When I switch the default in the get info view, as soon as i hit continue to switch all files of the same type to open with the new application, it immediately switches to the old application. Can't figure it out!

No idea what that would be. Try another file of that type. Also, maybe the other app is doing something to force its own settings. You don't mention the file type or app...

No, because Photos isn't a document/file editor. It can't work with single files like that. You'd import the photo into the Photos app first.

Do you know how to open .txt files. for an example I have purchased an over lay for photoshop from Etsy but they are selling them as .txt file because it is a large file . I want to use them in Photoshop but I can't open the .txt files in photoshop. thanks in advance.

A .txt file is a plain text file you open in TextEdit. Not sure what you are talking about here because that would have nothing to with Photoshop. I would contact that seller and ask them for instructions.

This is not working. It will only open exact file you select to "always open". File below it will still be in old "default mode". This is super annoying. And as soon as you clost that folder and open it again, its back to old default app.....I cant open my files in quick time, because they are 10bit.
