So good! Thank you for sharing on KZbin!!💜💖 I feel like the things that I have learned through my own experience are the things that you teach. I haven't heard most of what you say elsewhere. It's so confirming to hear someone say what I've learned through my own 8 year journey. As well as me learning a ton from you on top of it! What I'm referring to is how you suggest allocating your time and just so many truths it's hard to sum up.

I was married young and had a baby at 21 and my oldest married young and just had his first at 20, so I'm a 42-year-old grandma - it's pretty great!! :)

You obviously don't have ADHD if you can joke that, maybe you just need to write some things down... I don't disagree that our overuse of digital devices shortens our attention span and does cause ADHD symptoms in those that don't actually have it. But I dealt with enough shame and thinking there was something wrong with me prior to finding out I had ADHD that to have someone imply that maybe it's my fault and I just need to make a list, is super insulting.

You are correct: I don't have ADHD, but I do get the symptoms when I am on my phone too much and not writing things down. I often see women using a self-diagnosis of ADHD as an excuse - when they could make changes that solve their symptoms, but instead a diagnosis lets them off the hook for trying. Phone addiction looks just like ADHD, so it's something we should all take seriously. However, I also have many women in my community with legitimate ADHD diagnosis and the same techniques also help them handle life better. Laughing and joking and trying things is a healthier response than comparing yourself and feeling shame and staying stuck because you refuse to approach the situation and yourself with humor. Being offended is a choice. Even with ADHD, you are not stuck and you are not a victim. You just have to try different things and work with what you got, adjusting your expectations and approach. All 3 techniques I explain in this workshop have helped many women with ADHD in my community.

@@simplyconvivial There's absolutely work-arounds and resources that have been life changing but the difference now is that I know that when I fall apart, I know I am not a failure, I just have executive function difficulties. I can dust myself off and carry on, not get mired down in yet another failure. I think what bothered me is there may be others out there with actual ADHD and you implied that the problem is that they don't make a list. It's a lot more than that... It's not quite so trivial. There were too many years of thinking I just didn't try hard enough. I guess I did sound offended but I suppose that's because it felt like you were brushing off the struggles of ADHD. People with executive disorders definitely need systems. They help a lot but just because they are running around like a chicken with their head cut off doesn't mean they aren't trying. Just because you can walk, doesn't mean you can tell someone in a wheelchair to walk. I don't feel shame like I did before because I understand what ADHD is and how it affects me so that when I have difficulties I know it's not me as a whole person being a failure, it's part of how my brain works. And I am able to approach it with humor but that's not the same as trying to dismiss the validity of the isuue. Knowing I have ADHD has been empowering for me and I do appreciate the resources you are sharing and look forward to incorporating them. It just felt like you were minimizing what some people might be going through.
