When I was a kid my dad got sent to DC for work, and he brought his family with him. My brother and I were really little. My mom brought us all around DC, to the White House, the Smithsonian, the national zoo, we went everywhere. Our favorite thing about the trip? The suite we were in had a closet with all these cool cubbyholes and cabinets and shelves. We set up shop in there and had to be dragged out every single day. That closet was amazing.

Cassandra o'troy Took my 4yo and 6yo to Washington DC in 1999 with nanny while I attended a conference. Amy took them to White House, Natural History Museum, and other great places. One evening all they could talk about was the "Squirrel Museum" LOL. What? Instead of "seeing" the White House they were mesmerized by the huge number of really fat squirrels interacting with the tourists for treats. Funny vacation stories are what brings families together for years later!

I am glad that you were lucky not to fall victim of a criminal while being down there, because thanks to socialism, in 15 years the country went down the toilet!, education is horrible, crime beat records like never before, the politicians in charged stole millions of dollars... !! Just from one governmental company they stole 900 million dollars... make your math... And to make things worse they protected with laws the criminals who ended up killing many innocent people! Even tourists and an American expat, fell victim of this system. But there are people like Bruno Martel, who we call "focas" (seals) in Uruguay because they were so indoctrinated by the socialism system that they applaud all what socialists do, no matter how bad it could be. The proof of what I am saying is that socialism after 15 years of being in charge of the country, lost the last elections, people got fed up of their corruption, of high crime rates, of bad education, etc etc etc.. I really hope that things change for the better now. Just to give you an example of how bad these people are... let me tell you that when I left the country in 1999, there were no homeless people in the streets (yes there were poor people, like there are in any country), nowadays, it is estimated around 3,000 homeless... and about 600 neighborhoods who live under the line of poverty... but the people in charge and their friends live like kings! The same it was done in Cuba and Venezuela... they become rich and working people become poor and poorer, and when tourists go visit the country, they only show the nice neighborhoods, and towns (like Punta del Este) not the bad ones which are the majority...
