Great interview. Very true points about how Americans follow popular culture. UK radio culture has been innovative and not afraid to push new music for decades, and it makes a huge difference in influencing culture..

apart from his quote unquote controversial opinions this interview has some really insightful thoughts for up and coming DJs/producers from one of the most successful people in the business right now. Great stuff

ppl go to Aoki shows to see him do his thing, and they love it and will remember the moments for a very long time. Then there's people like Seth who just complains and gives off negative vibes, when everyone else is having a great time.

have you ever seen seth play live? he gives off a great vibe actually. he's so happy while he's DJing (and he's acting like a dork, of course) that you can actually feel it on the dancefloor and it lifts you up higher as well. with that said, to each his own. if someone wants to go to a steve aoki set and get cake thrown at them, so be it. i'd rather groove and stay away from all that cheese.

makeatransition i'm sure seth is an incredibly talented dj, but yes at the end of the day, to each his own. I just don't understand why seth feels the need to call another dj a cunt for making the crowd have a great time.

Visionaire Agreed.

***** who cares though? isn't going to shows all about having a good time and creating memories? i think the only ones who are hating on aoki are djs themselves who are jealous of his success.
@VisionaireBeats10 жыл бұрын
***** very true. i cant disagree with you, but ppl do buy aoki tickets to see him dance in front of a table and throw cakes. Other people will buy tickets for "real djs" to see them sample records and mix them together. Not every consumer has the same behavior/preferences. In the end, people are paying the dollars for the entertainment.

Pete Tong is quickly becoming disconnected from electronic music culture it seems.
@ellemarr723410 жыл бұрын
IdoIndeedFlip PLUR started out as an American rave term so it's not odd that Pete wouldn't have heard it. It also came about when Pete was already somewhat established in the industry. DJs, promoters, managers, etc. don't have a need to discuss PLUR (and they don't).

makeatransition It was extremely prominent in the UK/European acid and trance scene from late 80s/early 90s WAY in to the 2000s. I started going to parties some time 95 in Sweden and it was a well used expression here also.. For being someone called "The ambassadeur of electronic music" it is a bit baffling for him not to know this! In the EDM Kandi scene the expression lives, it is still very alive in the psy-/goa scene as well!

Mr Troxler is right, even though Berlin IS a cosmopolitan city the door policy in Berghain is just ridiculous. I've lived for a year and a half in Berlin, I"m pretty sure I've queued up more than 15 times for the Berghain and i was never let in, It may have actually been due to my racial heritage, which is kinda sad.

door policy not only in the berghain but alsmost in every single club in berlin (and germany in general) is racist and extremelly discrimanatory! if you dont believe it because you are a white european then try to go to the same clubs with a black/turk/afghan guy (even the ones who were born and raised in berlin) and you will see how you actually start beeing rejected almost at every clubs door! very sad and ignorant.
