This is why board games are great! I’m a big fan of trying all games and I get those feelings as well with some games and other people love the games I just don’t get. I’m like you I like a complex automa to truly replicate a player. However I like SETI but I do wonder if the more I play I will end up in the same position. I’ve got Nucleum, Gaia project and Civolution as my next solo games to learn and play. I imagine they are going to provide a better solo opponent.

this might not be right for this video but how was galileo galilei from the same designer as a solo, that seemed to offer a puzzle with the rondel

I actually MUCH preferred Gallileo Gallilei - it really struck a chord with me in a way that SETI didn’t.

Great to hear a genuine opinion that the game isn't perfect and some balanced feedback. Sounds great multi player, but not so good long term for solo!

Great, succinct review. Thank you for your thoughts. It kind of confirms my decision to pass on this one despite the hype. After extensive research and watching a couple of solo playthroughs I still felt like there was something missing that would make me want to add it to my collection. And I think it came down to a couple of things: nothing really novel or unique mechanically. It's a euro with a lot of different mechanisms combined in a fun, combotastic way. But most of my game purchases lately have been that. So, this wasn't necessarily adding something new. And it really felt like this should have come with 10+ alien factions; not just five. That seems to be the main replayability - discovering these alien factions and the way they combine to affect the gameplay each session. Five just doesn't feel like enough. And especially playing it solo it's not going to add a lot to replayability.

This game needs a light speed variant. At all player counts. I felt that four rounds are enough in my multiplayer game also.
