As for Daisuke’s influences and inspirations, he wears them on his sleeve. Every music reference you see in the Guilty Gear series are bands and songs that have influenced him in some way. Hell, even the vocalist is a win for Daisuke as that’s Naoki Hashimoto, lead vocals for a Japanese band called Outrage. In GG’s story, there is a weapon called the Outrage which has major story relevance. Although perhaps Daisuke’s biggest influence is Freddie Mercury and Queen. The main character, Sol Badguy, is basically a walking Queen reference.

@wolfan202 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Ky's name comes from Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen from the band Halloween. His original name holy orders (be just or be dead) is based on iron maiden's song be quick or be dead. As Op said, his super ride the lightning is based on one of metallica's album, his instakill is based on swedish rocker Yngwie J. Malmsteen's band of the same name. Finally his original uniform had a carving with the word HOPE in it, this is a reference to iron maiden's song revelation and putting more on Sol's rivalry "Ablaze with hope and free".

Fun fact: The riff that is very prevalent in the guitar solo is from "Holy Orders" and that riff is the only one to have appeared in EVERY mainline Guilty Gear game. The first game was Guilty Gear the Missing Link and it had a bunch of banger themes, the next game, Guilty Gear X, remastered most of the songs from Missing Link and gave a few of the characters like Axl brand new themes. Holy Orders was one of the songs that just got remastered. The next game (Guilty Gear XX) did not change any of the themes for existing characters. The game after that was Guilty Gear 2 Overture, that game had only two playable characters from previous games (Sol and Ky) and they both got remixes of their themes, for Ky, this was a more orchestral version of Holy Orders. The next game, XRD, however, was like the great purge for the songs. Every character got a brand new theme with brand new riffs and melodies. And while Ky's new theme (Magnolia Eclair) did not have any trace of Holy Orders, if you play as or against Ky, he can be damaged enough to undo his ponytail and let his luscious hair out, and that would automatically change the BGM to Overture's version of Holy Order. Strive also gave everyone brand new themes but as I said in the beginning, the main riff of Holy Order survived as the solo for Roar of the Spark.

One thing I love about Strive's music is that each theme sounds like it was written by the character, and for the character. There's a lot of lines that don't make logical sense but the emotions come through plain as day. Really goes with the whole "carve your own path" idealogy that Guilty Gear has.
@onerice33922 жыл бұрын
Funnily enough those "ride" sounds you hear in the bridge to the chorus (I saw you air drumming) are the witchcraft of Daisuke where he does a really weird harmonic of the note C and the same goes with the very high-pitch stuff you might hear in the song. This is perhaps on of my top 3 favorite Guilty Gear Strive song, I loved watching your reaction.

An inspiration I don't see a lot of people bring up is the manga series Bastard, which, much like Guilty Gear, is an over the top story with magic and demons and century long wars and such. Its an old manga from the 80s and it makes as many if not more allusions to metal music than Guilty Gear. The main character is a wizard named Dark Schneider after Udo Dirkschneider from Accept (which is also the name of a spell in the series), hell almost every attack in the whole series is just a direct reference to a metal band or song: Megadeth, Helloween, Venom, Judas Priest, etc, not to mention the main setting is the Kingdom of Metallicana, and the main villain being a giant demon god named Anthrasax. Daisuke's mentioned that he read Bastard in Shonen Jump growing up and that it directly inspired a lot of things about Guilty Gear. If anyone's interested in checking it out, there's actually a pretty new Netflix anime adaptation that has 2 seasons thats rather faithful to the original, though of course I highly recommend reading the translated manga if you've got the conviction to go out there and do so (though it can get rather 18+ at times so be warned lol)

This game absolutely got me into Metal - having songs linked to characters whose lyrics I can analyze for extra character depth (songs like Hellfire, Mirror Of The World, Roar of the Spark, etc.) can really convey things that you don't get just form character quotes or even story. Getting me into the mindset of analyzing the lyrics and the emotion, absolutely hooked me and got me into appreciating Metal as a genre. The "cheesiness into dope", transcends into almost awesome Camp? Like it wraps around and becomes awesome and exciting due to how wholly into it Daisuke is. Something g to keep in mind is that Japanese media tends to emphasize raw emotion - screams, reactions, etc. - over a "realistic or grounded performance", which translates really well into Metal from what I understand, being a newcomer.

it can definitely go both ways. a love of metal can bring someone into this game and this game can bring about a love of metal most of the songs you hear from this series that have lyrics will either be from Guilty Gear Xrd or Guilty Gear Strive this theme in particular is from Strive and focuses primarily on the need to keep pushing forward. one can't go back to the past after all and it doesn't help to regret the decisions you've made. the best you can do is acknowledge the mistakes you've made along the way and to use that knowledge to do things better for the future. it's important to pause and reflect before taking your next step, but you can't hesitate in taking that next step no matter what it is background info: this is the theme of Ky Kiske, a roughly 25 year old, catholic king of French descent. born during the Crusades against the Gears, a conflict spanning nearly 200 years starting in the mid 2010s lasting all the way until the mid 2170s, Ky's home and family were decimated by a Gear attack when he was 8 years old and he developed a deep hatred for the creatures as a result. when he was 15 he joined a coalition military force under the UN known as the Holy Order of Sacred Knights which was a military organization that represented no sovereign fighting for all of humanity as a species against the Gears. Ky proved to be a prodigal swordsman, adept in both advanced combat strategy and the use of lightning magic and eventually rose to lead the entire order of sacred knights before he was 20. during his service in the order, Ky beheld numerous atrocities and spearheaded many brutal battles, one in particular early in his career left him as the sole survivor of the detachment he was a part of. in a bid to overcome the guilt and trauma of the ordeal, Ky etched the word "Hope" onto his belt buckle to serve as a reminder to himself and those around him that nothing can be done without hope. he wears that buckle even to this day. also during his time in the order, Ky came into contact with an individual by the name of Sol Badguy and while he was impressed initially by Sol's hatred of gears and the zeal with which he seemed to fight them, the two would later grow to dislike each other as Sol proved to be quite insubordinate and reckless in contrast to Ky's rigid sense of honor and duty. this would ultimately develop into a rivalry between the two, going so far as to push Sol to etch the word "Free" onto his belt buckle in defiance of Ky's stiff command. the two would duel each other on occasion, usually after a disagreement until Sol finally left the order after fighting Ky one last time. Ky would later face down against the commander of the Gears, a Gear roughly the size of the Statue of Liberty who was named Justice, that humanity had been at war with for over a century and with help, was ultimately able to subdue her. after the war, Ky would later find out that Sol was also a Gear and after a series of events in the wake of the Crusades would find his beliefs and previous convictions challenged and ultimately flawed. among the revelations he made during this time, he discovered that the Gears were creatures made by mankind to kill mankind and grew to wonder if gears were capable of anything other than death and destruction this would come to a head when word of a creature said to inherit the will of Justice, the ability to command Gears, had emerged and when he found the creature in question, she was being faced down by Sol Badguy willingly giving herself up to him she appeared to be a girl. barely an adult with largely human features save for red eyes, a dark tail and two, almost wing shaped beings of black and white sprouting from her back. before Sol could strike her down, Ky found himself intercepting the blow and asked Sol if he would spare her that he might find out if a Gear could exist for anything more than destruction. Sol was angry at the notion that a Gear could be anything else at first but ultimately relented. this would also change the dynamic of Sol and Ky's relationship as Ky would no longer find Sol to be as unlikable as he would have in the past. time would pass on after this and Ky would grow to love the Gear who now was known as Dizzy and after becoming first king of the newly created United Kingdom of Illyria, he would secret her away to have a private ceremony which they would later consummate this would create a whole new slew of problems as Ky would find it increasingly difficult to live secretly with a Gear, a creature the rest of the world deeply hated and feared Ky would ultimately find a way to peacibly reveal Dizzy's existence to the world, an effort that took the assistance of many people including Dizzy herself but it was a long, painful time before he saw himself in a position to do so and after making that announcement, abdicated his right to rule Illyria

as far as everything in GG being metal, I think there's maybe a handful of tracks across the 20 years it's been a franchise. Think it's single digit numbers daisuke's made for it.

Metal got me into this game instead. I learned about this series from a music suggestion from a friend.

Guilty Gear definitely got me into metal. I used to be sooo anti metal, because like a lot of people who never gave it a fair shot, thinking it was just screaming. But Daisuke enlightened me, and I am so greatful

I think it's pertinent to mention though that Guilty Gears vocal tracks are performed by Naoki Hashimoto, Daisuke is the composer

I think what he's trying to describe is 'Engrish', which might sound racist but I honestly love it a lot. There's just something weirdly endearing about hearing a non-native speaker mispronounce words with 100% sincerity that makes it really cheesy/fun but also really quotable and memorable. It's like when someone in a B movie gives a weird delivery, but instead of really mocking them, you're just all on-board with it as a thing because of how much fun it is, you know? Hope that makes sense. Like not everyone is going to really 'get' it, but I just love stuff like weird Jojo pronunciations and "A-B-C-D-E-F-Go", there's just so much uniqueness and personality to it, it's great!

@@NuiYabuko I guess semantically you could say that? But it's not too different either way. Just people who speak Japanese saying some cheesy as heck broken English to sound cool is way more fun to me than it really should be.
