These multi-phase themes (labelled ___ Battle or Floor of ___) are what I like to call the Floor themes, or what plays when you fight on each floor of the Library. They're pretty much the game's equivalent of the regular battle themes, but what's really cool about these themes in particular is that they're intrinsically tied to a major mechanic of the game: Emotion Levels. You see, since the Library is a supernatural library, the environment can change in response to the people inside it. As the battle between the librarians and guests rages on and the sadness, excitement, and rage of the combatants build, they grow more powerful based on their individual Emotion Levels. And this extends to the music itself. Each successive phase tends to become quicker and/or more intense to match the mood. Phase 1 is the beginning of the fight, Phase 2 is when the emotions really start ramping up, and Phase 3 is when the collective Emotion Levels of the combatants reach their fever pitch and when they are at their most dangerous. It really makes it feel like the music is telling a story, and I love it when video games have dynamic music like this that keep you guessing as to how it evolves and escalates. But to elaborate further on the Floor themes, since each theme belongs to a certain floor, the music and genre is closely matched to the look of the floor (yes, the image in the video is the Floor of Natural Sciences) and/or the personality of the Patron Librarian that rules it. Said Patron Librarian here is Tiphereth (___ Battle refers to the name of the Patron Librarian). The elegance and overall majesty of this theme certainly matches the floor's look, but you'd be hard-pressed to connect it to Tiphereth's personality, which is mostly that of a cynical teenager. However, it makes more sense when you connect it to her namesake. The thing is, Tiphereth and the other Patron Librarians are named after the Sephirot in Jewish Kabbalah mysticism, parts of the Tree of Life that represent godly virtues or attributes. Tiphereth is the sphere that governs the glory and beauty of life, a celebration of life and all of its wonder, as well as balance between contrasting virtues. Tiphereth the librarian's entire character arc was all about rekindling her optimism and joy towards life, so in that sense, it's only natural that her theme is radiant to reflect that journey. So yeah, as you can see, each floor has its own atmosphere that makes each one stand out from each other. The only gripe I have with the videos I linked is that they end abruptly, as you noticed. They DO end at the close of the loop (each phase of the theme is meant to loop on itself), but I would have really liked it if there was some kind of gradual fade-out. I also would have liked it if there were two loops for each phase, but alas, there's not much I can do about it. It's just something you have to keep in mind for future videos.

They’re still not technically dead, though, since the librarians themselves turn into books when they die in battle, only to reawaken as normal after the fight. Everyone that’s defeated in the library is still alive, but are made to believe they are dead, even the librarians (so they can give their all in battle and make use of their emotions).

I love the heartbeat in Tiphereth's theme, as Tiphereth is the general "center" of the library. It's the midpoint in the game, and in a sense interconnects the other 'floors' as well. Hence being the heart.
@xXTheKingEmothXx2 жыл бұрын
Tiphereth is also the 'heart' of the Sephirah. She's emotional, blunt, and has persevered through trauma no child should ever have to endure. We see with how Chesed and Gebura bicker, and are complete opposites, and yet Tiphereths presence brings the best out of both of them.

I'm always delighted at the fact that the developers decided to describe their game as a "Library Battle Simulator" as if library battles are a totally normal and common thing that happens in real life, obviously. The floor themes are a great representation of both the themes of the patron librarian that leads the floor (in this case, Tiphereth), as well as the character of the librarian. I think song does a wonderful job expressing beauty, harmony and glory, and imo the fact that the phases don't change up too much despite the rising emotions works with Tiphereth as the "Balance" of the tree. Tiphereth herself is a snarky teenage girl, but she's been through and grown a lot past the grieving of her late brother and realizing she wants to understand the expectations of life that he had when he was alive, learning to appreciate what life has to bear despite the pain it brings as well, which is where that melancholic, negative emotion I feel comes from in this song. Though in the end, I kind of agree that her soundtrack ends up falling behind some of the other floor's music lol. Btw, the settings you are seeing are the floors of the library itself. You play as the library's defenders, choosing one of the available floors as you keep unlocking them through progressing the game and controlling up to 5 allies (One patron librarian, and 4 customizable regular librarians). And then you kill the people you invite and turn them into books! And use those books as bait for more invitations to kill them too! One of my favourite games of all time, 10/10.

Tiphereth (or Tiferet) in the Tree of Life in religion represents Balance and Grandeur, hence the appearance. In game the stage lighting will occasionally shift towards a darker version, much like the sun and moon. The weird thumping you heard in phase 2 was a heartbeat. If I remember correctly it's supposed to represent something personal for the character Tiphereth, specifically the death of her brother and her having learned to let go.

Hello hello! Glad to see that you're posting more LoR just as you said ;) These different phases for individual floor themes are known as "Emotion Levels," and for 0-1 it's at phase 1, then from 2-3 it's at phase 2, and at phase 3, it uses emotion level 4 and 5! These emotion levels are used in order to progress the receptions of the guests (makes the fights go faster), and give more bonuses to the librarians (your side). These emotion levels are locked by story progression and a boss battle, and the final emotion level is unlocked by completing a boss gauntlet that reprises all the previous ones you've fought + one more. In the floor of Natural Sciences, Tiphereth's floor is known as the place where "Exodia" assembles. What that means is up to you to find out ;) The next songs for LoR I would want you to cover the most would be the "Roland" and "Angela" battle themes!

Neat, more Ruina, glad too see you are taking more of my favorite game. Right of the bat each theme of the floors represent the character to the teeth in this case Tiph, if I have to describe this theme two key words come out: Maturity and Hope which goes along her whole character arc from both games. I really, really invite you to listen the Reverberation theme again to examine the counterparts on each floor in: this case the second part stars right with a very sad and defeated clarinet to set the tone which is Oswald's counterpoint to Tiphereth' hope motiff.

There's also a handful of vocal songs in Ruina sang by Mili, but those may incur some copyright issues for reviewing. The game has a handful of "sad boss fights with a sad song in the background", like "Then it was Heard No More", "Children of the City" and "Gone Angels".

@@daistellae you should play it if you got the chance, honestly. If you're a fan of turn based and a little bit of card combat, you'll enjoy it a lot. As for the mili songs, those have double meanings. Mili said before that the songs are meant to be interpreted twice, (or that they can be interpreted twice) once for the actual game and the characters they represent, or the standalone song. You can interpret the songs completely differently if you know the context.

I interpret this song to be a duet of the piano and violin. Each of the two representing a different character in the game. In lore, the one in charge of this floor had a brother who was lost. So the image of the two being represented in this instrumental duet is sweet.

As a side note, the reason all of these songs end abruptly is so it can loop back to the beginning of the current phase.

Explaining this game and its prequel Lobotomy Corporation genre and story is just ... difficult? the story is a huge factor that makes this game so amazing. Yet, the gameplay difficulty and the hard to explain face on story makes it really difficult to recommend. Such an amazing art piece of a game, that has quite the difficulty to be spread around.

Yeah, like Kevin said, anything titled "Floor of ___" is just the generic battle theme for that stage, and each of them has multiple phases that change based on the Emotional level of your team (1, 2, 3+). That's not to say there aren't boss themes, though. I think there are 3 in total. The Blue Reverberation theme (which you've done), and then there's Angela's boss theme, and the theme of Black Silence. You'll notice that, because of the Emotion mechanic be present in the whole game, each theme, regardless of boss or not, has 3 phases. It's also noted that for the theme of Black Silence, and Angela, you kind of have to tackle them together, because the phase 3 of both those fights use the phase 2 melody of the other. My personal favorite one is the Hod battle (Floor of Literature)

Tiph's floor is a delight, once everything gets unlocked it's like you're fighting for everyone's souls and the fate of all reality. Ruina itself, being a sequel, is very well self-contained and can be played independently of Lobotomy Corporation, though in my experience playing LobCorp makes for better emotional investment. The gameplay works like a deck-builder where your cards have dice that are rolled either in opposition to an opponent in a clash. In clash, depending on what type of dice are opposed a number of things might happen. IF there is no clash, then the damage just gets rolled and applied, usually. There's all sorts of themes in this game, each floor has their own...aspect? Emotional component? It's a game about dealing with the traumas of a sick city and terrible losses and mistakes made by people who maybe don't quite understand. A bunch of the music is made to loop as the battles can be very long. I do hope someone requested Binah and Gebura's themes, those are wild. Or the new Trumpet themes, those got remixed from LobCorp for Ruina. Or theme 2, from the trailer, that sounds like a casino, it's fun.
