Walk around the island village, Seto inland sea, Kojima Nagashima (Okayama Prefecture) / Cliff house villa island & sanatorium island
Kojima
An island 4km south of Nissei. The steep mountains approach the coast, and there are few flatlands. In ancient times, it was also referred to as Kabuto Island and Kabuto Island, and it is said that Kojima flew well. It became a horse maki of the Okayama domain in 1679, and was designated as a penal colony in 1697 and was unmanned for a long time. Eighteen households settled from Kashira Island in May, and the land reclamation began, and leaf tobacco cultivation was carried out. Land development began about 30 years ago, and it has become a major villa area with more than 300 houses. The number of villa buyers is aging and the number of users is decreasing, but from spring to summer, families and young people come to the island from the Keihanshin region. Mandarin orange gardens spread out in the gentle hills, and are crowded with orange hunters in the fall. (See "Shimadas")
Nagashima
The sea of Mushiage, an old port town in the eastern part of Okucho, Setouchi, forms a deep Mushiage Bay, but Nagashima, 4.2km east-west and 0.8km north-south, lies at the mouth of the bay. The central part of the island is constricted to only 40m and is called Funakoshi. In the "Engi-shiki", there is a horse cow in Nagashima, Bizen Province, and in ancient times it was used as a cow pasture and a horse pasture. Even during the Bizen clan era, the entire island was a horse maki in the territory of the Iki family, who served as the chief retainer. Both Tatezaki and Funakoshi at the eastern end are scenic spots, and especially Funakoshi is commonly counted as one of the eight scenic spots.
Until the beginning of the Showa era, about 20 households lived a half-farming and half-fishing life. Japan's first national Hansen's disease treatment facility "Nagashima Aiseien" was established in 1945, and the current national sanatorium "Oku Komeien" was established in 2013. Since then, more than 10,000 leprosy patients have been isolated and housed from all over the country. .. In 1996, the "Leprosy Prevention Law", which was the basis of the 90-year isolation policy, was abolished, and compensation for residents of medical treatment facilities was realized by the leprosy prevention law unconstitutional state compensation claim in 2013. However, about 241 residents (January 2019), who are aging and difficult to reintegrate into society, continue to live on the island. In 2019, the Nagashima Aiseien and Oku Komeien buildings (10 facilities in total) became the first national sanatorium buildings to become a national registered tangible cultural property.

They are strange looking places at 11:52 & 12:53! Are these villas used as holiday homes? The Leprosy Hospital was unexpected - good video & thank you for the English subs 👍😊

Thank you for your comment 😊 I think this villa is a summer resort, so I think there will be people in the summer. It is an island with a rare landscape in Japan.

Interesting Island!! Those villas look like that built at dangerous place.😬😬 Did you see any guards (for villa/island) there?

Thank you 😊 Certainly, I'm afraid that it will collapse due to an earthquake or heavy rain, but the foundation seemed to be fairly well built (it costs money). I didn't see any guards. Chris Mar. 1 hour ago (edit) Interesting islands !! Those villas look like they were built in a dangerous place. Did you see the guards (villa / island) there?
