I am from Germany. I ate my first Whopper at a BK on a US military base. We more or less snuck into the army post to get our Whoppers, BK Broilers, BBQ Bacon Double Cheeseburgers and all the other stuff. Believe me, I have eaten at BK Restaurant in many different countries around the world. No other Burger King could compete with the Burger King at this military post. I am now over 50, the army post is closed, the Americans have left and “my” good old Burger King has been demolished. I still miss these times and these phenomenal Whoppers.

I was a manager at BK back in the 1990s. Around 1998 they changed from the original fries to a "coated" version. They were not great. The 2012-present fries are much better. The Whopper has changed slightly over the years as well. They no longer steam the buns which I think makes them too dry. They also stopped using shredded lettuce, which I miss, but I know some people like giant hunks of lettuce. Pro tip. If you want fresh fries, order them with no salt. They'll have to drop a fresh basket. Then ask for a salt packet.

They’re really huge here in the Greenville, SC area. But the Double Whopper with cheese combo is my favorite as well!! I’m 54 years old. And for some reason, I remember the onion rings tasting better when I was a kid, than they do today. But maybe it’s just me. And I definitely remember those Star Wars Glasses!! I had a few of those back in the early 80s. Ahh…to be able to relive those days. It would be great. Take care and God bless!! 🙏🏻💯🤘

And the salty ham cheese roll the yumbo. Nice memories. Can’t ember the last time I ate Hungary’s….. weird, in Victoria circa 2000 Burger King came and competed with Hungry Jacks…. Great video. Seeing the last original BK and the history lesson is cool. The first waves of franchises and independent drive-ins in the US were run by returning GIs like my uncle. He told stories about price wars that would occasionally flare up along the “main drag” of the town. It’s hard to believe that a free scoop of ice cream could cause a small riot.

As a kid & to this day as an adult I ALWAYS loved Burger King & its my go to place to eat. I loved everything from the Whopper, to the Kids Meal & Toys, Slides & the 90's is where they really hit the jackpot. I have noticed a lot of changes too from the buns, to the fries & collaborations with IP's but still love it. I do miss those cool & wacky commercials they did between 90's through 2010's. Now its just singing & rhyming My location in my area know me so well whenever I put in a mobile order or enter the building & present a coupon from the mail but my fav Burger King spot is the 1 in Burbank which is the same BK that was shot in the opening sequence of Back To The Future when Marty was late for school. The fries in the 90s were my favorite. I used to go to McDonald's and get a Big Mac and then run over and get BK fries. They still had a little skin on them and tasted fresh. After they changed them it was never the same. They were like mashed potatoes formed and deep fried to look like fries. They tasted awful and it wasn't until 2012 that they finally started to taste somewhat palatable...but never like they were pre late 90s. Just my two cents.

Fantastic video!!! I have a BK tip for you. I love the Whopper, but I don’t like the cheese they use at all. I don’t know what they do to it, but melts too easy and it’s more like a sauce. I use my own American cheese and it’s so much better. I’ve even put a couple of slices in a sandwich bag and taken them to the restaurant with me. I recommend that you give it a try whether you pack it yourself to BK like a nut or just add your own cheese at home. If you do it at home, set the cheese out on the counter before you leave the house so it isn’t refrigerator cold when it goes on your burger. I think you will be impressed.

I grew up in a small Massachusetts town south of Boston, and we had a Burger King. The only fast food place in town. I didn't grow up on McDonald's like my friends in the surrounding towns. It was Burger King. After little league in the 70's, we'd always go to Burger King. On a Saturday, we'd bug our parents to go to Burger King. And then in High School in the 80's.. the after school hangout was... Burger King. Where did a ton of us get our first jobs? At the Burger King. It was such a huge part of my childhood, that Burger King will always be my favorite fast food spot, and I'm so glad they're getting rid of that 90's early 2000's logo and color scheme garbage, and going back to their 70's designs. I only wish the buildings and interiors went back too. So much nostalgia and so many memories.

Mattoon, IL is home of the original Burger King

I came here to say that also. The one in Mattoon won in court, and the franchise also can't put in any stores within 50 miles. Also, the original Burger King also just opened a second location in Shelbyville, IL.

Parked by the river behind this Burger King was a van while Bob Odenkirk was growing up, this in turn inspired him when he was writing the best SNL Skitch ever. Van down by the river was born right there.

I worked at BK in high school back in the mid 70’s and the fries were fried in beef fat. Sunday mornings with fresh fat in the friers they were great.

I used to love Burger King, like ate it nearly every day thruoutght high school since there was one right by my school. back then a whopper was 99 cents and sometimes you could get two for 99 cents! something happened with the bun that has made it to where I no longer can stomach it anymore. I dont know what they changed, probably just some money saving thing or added preservatives but nit it makes me feel sick after eating. I am sure its the bread because I have had the whopper with NO bread a few times as an experiment and sure enough no problem but as soon as I eat that bun I am burping it for hours and hours after.

In the 60s my parents would take us from New Jersey to Florida each year for vacation. It was a huge treat to eat at Burger King since none had made it up to where we lived yet. Good video.

I started eating at Burger Kings in Miami in the 1960's, back when they had a 60 second guarantee. You could watch the burgers on the conveyor roll through the flame broiler. They're not as good today as I remember them from 50 years ago, and I don't eat fast food burgers often, but I still love a Whopper with cheese, pickles and onions, cause I can have it my way!

I remember the BK's that had the conveyor right in front. You would order and pay then you would see them throw your burger and bun on the broiler conveyor and you would walk down watching it cook. Then to the assembly area where they put it on the bun and add all the fixins to it, wrap it, put it in the bag and hand it to you. All while you were watching.

When I grew up in the 80s our town only had burger King. I didn't know it ever looked like this. Burger King closed in our town like 20 years ago. It will always have a special place in my heart ❤️. Great stuff

Growing up in Miami, this is what Burger King looked like. Although for some reason, I remember a king sitting on the roof ledge, holding a milkshake.

Im glad there is a semi original BK still around. Thanks for your documentation of BK history. As a kid i liked Wendys, first, BK, and then mcdonalds i eat my burgers with only lettuce. Sometimes add pickles. We didnt go a lot because my mom cooked or made us food. Then i learned to make my own food.

I grew up on Burger King when i was a little kid in Staten Island. The smell of the literal flame broiled burgers was to die for. I miss those simple pleasures. I was blessed to have a simple yet special childhood.

There’s a 70s/80s Burger King Building next to a modern one in Blue Bell PA. It became a dry cleaner and then closed in 2020. Still has tables outside. Can see where the sign was

Handicapped spots are hazardous to the health of American Grafitti cruisers - so are drive THRUS, & no curb service. Do they still have the much bigger whoppers for 99c - like back in the day?

My friend worked at a service station next to a location in the 50s. He said he and his wife were barely able to afford rent in FT. Lauderdale and had it not been for Burger King's prices, they would have been forced to go back to their families in Kentucky. They would still eat a Whopper together every so often.

The first Burger King I ate at was the first one in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and I believe it looked like this one. I do remember that they had a single order line that went past a large window thru which you could watch the flame broiler at work!

I worked at this location when I was 15! (I had to get a work permit from my High School). Wild times. I remember my Manager, an old Irish guy that would "Irish Ip" his coffee. One day they were going to toss the chicken tenders that had sat too long, and the manager challenged me to eat them all... (I think there were probably 35-45... and they were the old ones they used to sell, the long meaty tenders they initially sold in the 80's, not the chicken fries, nor the tenders they sell today) my stomach nearly exploded. Across the bridge, they had the old Cock Robin Ice Cream factory, as well as an attached Cock Robin restaurant: home of the square ice cream cones, and the one in a million malts. Thanks for the memories.

Emmanuel Lewis was in a Burger King commercial in the early 80s.I used to work at the one in Stuart, FL for two months, then I got transferred to the one in Palm City, FL. I did dining room at both of them. Burger King used to have a salad bar in the late 90s for about a year. Salad bar was discontinued. I worked that on the weekends.Thoses two places aren't there anymore.
